Under general direction, the Principal Specialist, Quality Assurance uses specialized knowledge or skills to solve complex and unique problems, or direct the daily activities of a business, technical support, or functional support team. Establishes priorities for the completion of assigned tasks. Uses judgment to interpret internal and external issues and develop best practices. May direct resources, prioritize tasks and provide guidance to less experienced team members. Relies upon experience, interpersonal skills, and broad knowledge of field to ensure task completion in compliance with policies, procedures, and business strategy.

This position is located at a client site in Richmond, VA. No Relocation will be provided.

Position Description/Job Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized technical expertise in support of the Quality program, including specialized inspection and testing techniques, quality training, statistical methods, audits, quality tools for problem solving and assessment.
  • Creates inspection reports stating the conditions of a work area to ensure requirements are met.
  • Makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Applies knowledge of quality systems and tools to validate and verify contractually required standards for project execution.
  • Implements principles of performance evaluation and prediction methods are used to improve product systems safety, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standard of products and the procedures and materials that go into work scope.
  • Aligns quality management function with the performance needs of product lines.
  • Adhere to client site rules and regulations with a commitment to safety, client satisfaction, and KBR values



  • 10 years of applicable experience
  • Knowledge of and experience of fabrication processes for mechanical and process equipment
  • Knowledge of and experience working with equipment specifications
  • Knowledge of:
  • welding processes and inspection techniques
  • NDE processes and techniques
  • test & measurement processes and techniques
  • industry codes and standards
  • QC processes and techniques
  • reading design fabrication drawings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization skills and ability to function within a project team

Physical Requirements

  • Climbing ladders over 12 feet to access platforms for equipment evaluation
  • Climbing stairs, both internal and external, up to 6 stories
  • Walking up to ½ mile, often over uneven surfaces
  • Working in outside weather conditions, including rain, extreme heat and cold
  • Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as fire retardant clothing, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots
  • Day-to-day physical requirements involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs frequently, etc
