Description:The Executive Communications team is looking for a strategic-minded and motivated speech writer with strong project management skills to join our team. This key role will support the Chairman, President and CEO’s office and the Lockheed Martin business to develop communications for the CEO’s internal and external engagements through the preparation of talking points, speeches, presentations, webcasts, written messages, videos, social media and correspondence.
Specific job responsibilities include:
•Research, develop and write executive speeches, talking points, letters, webcasts, and video recordings for internal and external audiences;
•Provide expert skill with grammar and usage, as well as fact-checking, to ensure a consistently high quality of executive communications materials;
•Oversee and manage the production of videos and electronic communications with support from internal and external multimedia groups;
•Contribute to the executive communications strategy for the Corporation, identifying areas to implement thought leadership programs in support of business goals;
•Provide strategic counsel to leadership on CEO-level engagements; and
•Manage development of executive preparation materials (e.g., run-of-show documents) with other functions and business teams.
•Demonstrated skill in writing, editing and oral communications with the ability to convey complex information in clear, compelling ways;
•Experience in executive communications in large organizations; demonstrated ability to provide coaching, new ideas, feedback and real-world lessons learned;
•Ability to manage projects to deadline and superior organization skills;
•Exceptional attention to detail, adaptability, and a sense of urgency;
•Demonstrated leadership in a high-performing communications organization; strong work ethic and positive attitude;
•Ability to work with a high level of independence or collaboratively with a team;
•Proven strategic communications mindset with experience delivering business results and measuring success;
•Demonstrated executive presence; ability to provide coaching, new ideas, sensitive feedback and real-world lessons learned to leaders at all levels;
•Understanding of political, economic, and policy nuances at the intersection of the business, government, and defense and aerospace industries.
•Portfolio of samples will be needed before interview; writing test will be required;
•Work location in Bethesda, Maryland. Travel required as necessary
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/combined education, with professional experience and specialized training commensurate with assignment; master’s degree preferred;
•15+ years relevant experience in corporate/executive communications, government public affairs or think tanks; active membership in professional associations of executive communicators and speechwriters;
•Demonstrated orientation toward problem-solving;
•Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including executive management; and
•Knowledge of Lockheed Martin's business and aerospace and defense industry.
