Compassionately deliver high-quality service and basic, as well as advanced, patient care in a professional, caring and cost effective manner. Performs work as member of the fire department, having advanced emergency medical care responsibilities. This position is technical and skilled in nature and requires the ability to interact with patients, independently assess and treat medical emergencies, follow established advanced treatment protocols, supervise patient care and document findings and events for the patient’s medical record.
Member must be able to drive/inspect an ambulance. Will be required to drive to many different locations and abide by all driving rules. Must have map reading skills to minimize response time.
Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
Provide quality patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
Effectively utilize medical equipment and procedures including life PAC (or sim) defibrillator EKG monitor, oxygen and suction device. IVs for Intravenous fluids. Administer drugs as directed. Will need to adapt to equipment changes.
Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
Set up and run a medical safety training programs; CPR EMT and Paramedic.
Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
Document activities with regard patient care to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call
Read medication/prescription labels and directions for usage in quick, accurate and expedient manner. Practice
Converse with dispatcher and EMS providers via phone or radio as to status of patient. Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
When needed must accompany patient on airborne Medical evacuation.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
If needed will be required to use, which includes a demand valve-type, positive-pressure face piece or HEPA filter masks, which requires the ability to tolerate increased respiratory workloads.
Be required to perform medical care at location of patient, could mean use of stairs, climbing ladders, operating from heights, walking or crawling in the dark along narrow and uneven surfaces.
Unpredictable emergency requirements for prolonged periods of extreme physical exertion without benefit of warm-up, scheduled rest periods, meals, access to medication(s), or hydration.
Performs inventory and accountability for controlled substances.
May be tasked to perform blood sampling for drug or alcohol related testing.
Operating vehicles in an emergency mode with emergency lights and sirens. Including inspection and cleaning of equipment
Critical, time-sensitive, complex problem solving during stressful may be aggravated by fatigue, flashing lights, sirens, and other distractions.
Will function as an integral component of a team on Hazmat operations, and work as a member.
Will be tasked to develop and instruct classes to include CPR, Frist aid, EMT, AEMT and other medical classes will be required appropriate certification.
Will maintain all certifications and requirements set by the State, National Registry, AF and Operating Instructions.
Will be tasked with emergency and non-emergency equipment, personnel, supplies moves between stations and other facilities.
Performs safety inspections as requested.
Perform cleaning of department facilities to include general housekeeping, living areas, stalls and outside areas.
Comply with protocols, instructions and policies.
Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Work is often carried out under stressful conditions in the presence of contagious disease, environmental, chemical or physical hazards. This position may be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, gasses. Exposure may also include extreme environmental elements such as heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and sun etc. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, and lifting up to 100 pounds. At times, work will be done in an office environment.
Associates Degree or equivalent training and work experience. Possess a minimum of 4 years’ experience as Paramedic working with high call volume. Must be a current Paramedic with approved State of Nevada Paramedic license. Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, BTLS or PHTLS provider Certification. Must meet associated medical requirements and also be able to pass medical examinations annually and physical fitness and agility tests semi-annually. Must meet fitness requirements, and pass fitness test two times a year. Must be able to work in a remote location with limited medical personnel and facilities. Must be able to spend up to 6 full days away from home. Must be able to work on weekends and holidays. Must sleep in the fire station and be able to awake and perform when needed to respond from sleep. Cannot have sleeping issues that prevent him from being awoken for responses. Must be available to travel for training or work at remote locations. Be able to operate and inspect vehicles and equipment. Ability to communicate (give and comprehend verbal orders) while wearing protective ensembles and under conditions of high background noise. U.S. Citizenship. Qualify for and maintain a top secret security clearance with access to all locations. Must meet training requirements established by AF protocols and Department OIs. Must have ability to work past scheduled shift with little or no notice.
