The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate is hiring a Mechanical Gas Turbine Propulsion Engineer II in Tucson, Arizona. This position is in the Energetics and Propulsion Department, which is responsible for the full spectrum of propulsion (rocket motor, air breathing), warhead performance, fuzing, rocket motor ignition power sources, one-shot energetic initiation, and all other weapon systems technology. A remote work site may be considered.


The ideal candidate will:
Apply or develop highly advanced technical technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to the systems integration of gas turbine propulsion systems, mechanical and electrical interfaces for integration into missile systems. Position will involve both development and production programs across Missile Systems Product Lines
Review manufacturing processes and problem resolution as well as working directly with subcontractors on the design and manufacturing of propulsion systems, especially gas turbine engines.
Work in a collaborative environment with program management in long-range program planning concerning new or projected areas of technological research and advancements and be a key spokesperson on program’s technical capabilities and future directions
Manage gas turbine propulsion system development projects and gas turbine propulsion subcontracts; review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; and oversee supplier operations
Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies. Frequently interface with the Customer to identify user needs
Be instrumental in obtaining new company business and act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational missile programs
Will travel extensively to government and subcontractor facilities


Required Experience and Skills:
Two (2) years of experience in propulsive technology and its application to gas turbine propulsion systems
Systems knowledge to assure full development of propulsion requirements and dissemination and flow down to subcomponent levels
The ability to obtain a DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance

Desired Experience and Skills:
Four (4) or more years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and its application to gas turbine propulsion systems

Aerospace gas turbine performance propulsion analysis expertise
Airframe/gas turbine propulsion system integration experience including inlet and nozzle airframe integration
Experience in developing Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) tools for airframe/propulsion integration
Conduct propulsion system trade studies using MDO tools
Conduct complex aircraft/propulsion performance assessment
Familiarity with complex hydrocarbon liquid fuel storage and delivery system design and integration
Familiarity with gas turbine engine accessory systems including power generators and bleed air systems
Familiarity with gas turbine engine advanced component technology and ability to assess merits of these advanced technologies
Demonstrated ability to work and interact with multiple gas turbine engine suppliers (personal interaction and developing supplier statement of work requirements)
Ability to manage supplier contract execution using earned value management tools
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Adaptable and willing to develop solid rocket motor propulsion expertise
An advanced technical degree

Required Education (including Major):
Bachelor of Science General, Aerospace, Design, Mechanical or Systems Engineering; Applied or Engineering Physics

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
