Job Summary

AECOM is an international engineering consultancy specialising in the design, management, construction and operation of major infrastructure projects. Our business is multisector spanning transportation and civil infrastructure including rail, highways, water, power, mining and urban development in underground space.

The Tunnelling Group includes dedicated teams of technical and project delivery specialists based at our centres of excellence in Birmingham and Croydon.

The scope and portfolio of work being delivered by the Tunnelling Group is wide ranging from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. Key projects currently being delivered include Hinkley Point C, HS2 Phase 2b and Thames Tideway. The team is also actively supporting infrastructure projects in the Middle East and Europe. We pride ourselves on our technical excellence, offering buildable and safe design solutions.

Our Midlands office, in the very centre of Birmingham, is seeking to employ an ambitious and enthusiastic Engineer to support our growing team of professionals.

This will be a challenging role where we will encourage and support your versatile approach to help you build on your existing engineering knowledge.

Minimum Requirements

  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the technical delivery of designs on tunnelling projects (including tunnel linings and shafts)

  • Experience overseeing small teams of engineers and CAD technicians to deliver design packages on time and to budget.

  • The candidate must hold a minimum qualification of BEng or similar, preferably in a Civil or Structural Engineering discipline.

  • The candidate must be a chartered Engineer and a member of a professional body (eg MICE).

  • Confident working to the appropriate codes and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Structural focus with the ability to design concrete and steelwork to Eurocodes.

  • Competent in industry standard FE software (LUSAS)

  • Experience in modelling soil-structure interaction using industry standard software (PLAXIS 3D).

  • Experience in delivering tunnelling projects in one or more of the following sectors: Road, rail, metros, water supply, sewage, gas or cable tunnels.
