Job Summary

AECOM is looking for an Environmental Planner to join our Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) Practice in Germantown, Maryland. This position will provide NEPA compliance, natural resources management, and environmental program support to Federal agencies and other public and private sector clients. The qualified candidate will have worked on and managed small to large environmental projects of varying size across an array of geographies. He or she will have knowledge and experience relevant to environmental consulting such as that related to applicable laws and regulations, client organizations and missions, technical and cost proposals, contracts, and project management concepts or principles.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and perform consulting projects to scope, schedule, and budget, learning and

applying AECOM’s project management systems and software. The candidate will accelerate through AECOM’s in-house Project Management certification program within the first year of employment.

  • Coordinate, manage, and direct project field and data collection efforts.

  • Develop, manage, and deliver business strategy and tactics, high-quality proposals, interdisciplinary teams, and documents and report deliverables.

  • Serve as an interface with clients and regulatory personnel on projects and through business development initiatives.

  • Proactively enforce a culture of producing high-quality work and the importance of health & safety within the team.

  • Provide technical support to the IAP Department and individual Project Managers and support inter-disciplinary business development activities (cultural resources, natural resources and NEPA services).

  • Collaborate with other AECOM offices and the nationwide IAP Practice.

  • Serve as a mentor to junior and mid-level staff.

  • Perform client visits and field activities that require work outside the office and overnight travel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, ecology, natural resources, wetlands management, geology, planning, or an earth science-related field

  • 4 years industry experience providing NEPA and/or related environmental consulting services to Federal clients; 2+ years of project management experience in delivery of such services

  • 3+ years industry experience providing NEPA consulting services to Federal clients

  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience in successful management of Environmental Assessment (EA) or Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field

  • 10+ years industry experience

  • 5+ years project management experience involving interdisciplinary teams and/or specialized subcontractors, and regular client interface/communication

  • 5+ years technical and price proposal management experience

  • In-depth working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point; working knowledge of GIS and MS Project

  • Professional certification(s) (e.g., AICP, CEP, PMP, CWB, PWS, PE, etc.)Advanced technical report writing (samples requested) and communication skills (oral and written)

  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment

  • Time and organization management skills to prioritize/perform multiple, detail-oriented tasks

  • Relevant references, awards, and/or recognition from peers, colleagues, or clients
