Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a

Data Center HVAC/R Technician 6 at the advanced SME level to join our new critical environment operations & maintenance team in a data center in

Warrenton, VA .

  • These positions work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule of DAYS & NIGHTS to ensure full coverage and adequate training in this 24/7 operation.

  • Hiring bonus may be available to qualified candidates outside of the commuting area.

The Data Center HVAC/R Technician is responsible for performing at the subject matter expert level with respect to responding to work orders, advanced troubleshooting, and providing preventative maintenance on critical facilities and utilities systems and equipment, including but not limited to mechanical equipment, motors, pumps, plumbing and piping, drains, and related equipment.

Within AECOM, our group provides facilities and production maintenance services for our clients’ industrial, manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceutical, and commercial sites worldwide.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Understands and complies with all Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) programs and procedures.

  2. Performs at level of HVAC Subject Matter Expert with demonstrated experience in pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems.

  3. Demonstrates thorough understanding of air flow dynamics including air handlers, exhaust, and steam humidifiers with the ability to independently diagnose and troubleshoot and provide direction on critical infrastructure issues.

  4. Demonstrates working knowledge of energy management systems (building automation systems) and has the ability to program, troubleshoot, schedule, and trend data.

  5. Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs heating and ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, air dryers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment as necessary.

  6. Utilizes the Building Automation System to track, adjust, and trend.

  7. Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC controls and operating systems as scheduled in the CMMS.

  8. Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve electrical problems, and provide solutions to critical infrastructure problems.

  9. Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on temperature, humidity, and pressurization issues.

  10. Leads maintenance teams with task assignments, oversight, quality inspections, training, and work order management.

  11. Executes the leadership characteristics and critical thinking skills necessary to coach team members through problem solving and troubleshooting steps.

  12. Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance/reliability.

  13. Utilizes strong mechanical and electrical skills in order to complete assignments.

  14. Provides excellent customer service and feedback on all work orders while ensuring compliance to codes, regulations, industry standards, and company policies.

  15. Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  16. Operates equipment such as hand tools, computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  17. Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, while remaining flexible in the day-to-day activities for the benefit of the customer.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested. For example, technicians may be required to write emergency procedures or methods of procedures for various critical infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  • At least 8 years of experience as an HVAC/R maintenance technician in a data center, heavy industrial, or pharmaceutical / biomedical environment (or an equivalent combination of education and work experience).

  • Must have an active Top Secret Security/Sensitive compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Clearance and Polygraph (TS/SCI + Poly) Clearance.

  • Due to the nature of the work, must be a US citizen.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.

  • May require a valid Driver’s License.

  • Will require various shifts and alternative work schedules, including holidays and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HVAC/Mechanical certification such as Journeyman/Master certification.

  • Must have an EPA Universal certification.

  • Associate’s degree in HVAC, industrial mechanical, industrial electrical, or a related skilled trade.

  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure.

  • Formal training and experience in building automation systems.

  • Experience working in a Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) environment.

  • Experience working with centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, VAV pneumatic controls and energy management systems (building automation control systems).

  • Experience reading dials, monitoring equipment, and entering data into computer software.

  • Proficiency with MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
