Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Digital Engineering Technician Apprentice to be based in Exeter. The successful candidate will work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary engineering design team responsible for data collection and production of project deliverables for water and wastewater projects.

The role of the Digital Engineering Technician is dynamic and stimulating. You will be an integral part of the engineering design team contributing to a range of projects within Water Ports and Power (WPP), ensuring that our clients achieve their requirements and objectives. This will involve working at all stages of our projects, from initial site investigation/data collection to delivering detailed design documentation.

The construction industry is going through what is commonly referred to as “The fourth industrial revolution”. Digital data, information and designs are becoming increasingly valuable to our clients and they are demanding that the use of digital technology is adopted to enable improved efficiencies. The increased adoption of emerging technologies i.e. laser scanning, drone surveys, data analytics and BIM processes are changing the way our industry are delivering projects.

We support our apprentices through on-the-job training and both college and university training, investing in your career and the future of AECOM. As a part of this learning, you will undergo studies alongside your role and work towards a formal qualification. Our work is client-focused, and we are a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in science, engineering, sustainability, statistics and commercial. Consequently, we have the capability, expertise and mindset to develop solutions applicable to a wide range of problems. We are looking to strengthen our Exeter digital team with an apprentice to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Work as a member of the Water, Ports & Power engineering design team.

  • Assist with site surveys and data collections.

  • Produce drawings using AutoCAD Civils 3D with the necessary level of detail as required for engineering projects at various stages of development: studies, conceptual design, detailed design and construction.

  • Undertake 3D modelling, specifically with AutoCAD Civils 3D, Plant 3D and Revit.

  • Reporting to the design leader you will also directly interface with other team members, from graduates to Directors.

Minimum Requirements

No experience is necessary, but what is important for our apprentices here at AECOM is the following;

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Maths & English

  • An aptitude towards good logic, problem solving and strong organisational skills

  • An interest in and a desire to pursue a career in digital delivery

  • Wider interest in the civil infrastructure sector as a whole

  • Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities

  • Practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

  • English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills

  • Self-motivated and the ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.

  • Basic computer skills essential (Word/Excel)

  • Experience in using CAD software i.e. AutoCAD, and Revit would be an advantage

  • Experience in coding/programming would be an advantage

  • Ability to develop drawings and designs from outline sketches and contribute to the design development.
