Job Summary

We are looking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner into the Urban Space team of our Transport Planning Business in either the St Albans (Hertfordshire) or London Aldgate offices. This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of transport modelling including urban micro-simulation projects for a wide variety of clients. This Principal Transport Planner will report to an Associate Director or a Regional Director within a collaborative team and open office environment. A key part of this role is winning and hands-on project delivery as well as providing leadership, mentoring and technical advice for aspiring team members. As such, this Principal Consultant role will need to have experience of micro-simulation traffic and transport modelling with a wider understanding of transport planning.

Our Traffic micro-simulation team is diversified with wide-ranging skills and high-end project experiences such as developing micro-sim models for entire big towns with strong interactions and interface with strategic models following all webtag and MAP criteria.

Our clients include national and local transport authorities such as the UK Department for Transport and Transport for London, major sporting events organizing bodies similar to the London Olympic Delivery Authority in 2012, private developers of land and transport facilities as well as overseas institutions such as the Dubai’ Roads and Traffic Authority. We develop and use some of the most sophisticated transport modelling techniques, applying a range of specialist software, and offer a comprehensive internal training programme to further assist professional and technical development. The successful Principal Transport Planner will be joining a growing Transport Planning team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:

  • Transport for London (TfL);

  • Highways England;

  • Various London Boroughs such as Ealing, Sutton, Enfield, Wandsworth and Richmond, etc.

  • Leicestershire County Council

  • Hertfordshire County Council

  • Buckinghamshire County Council

St Albans is one of our central hubs for the Transport Planning and Development Planning team, located 30 minutes north from London St Pancras / Kings Cross, and on the Thameslink railway line with direct routes to Croydon, Wimbledon, Luton, Brighton, and more. London Aldgate is one of our major hubs for our global consultancy services, and working closely with our colleagues in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, as well as other offices; and is on the Hammersmith and City/ District Line at the Aldgate East Station.

Minimum Requirements

  • ?Extensive knowledge of microsimulation modelling software, preferably Vissim etc.

  • ??Familiarity with TfL MAP and WebTAG guidance, and will have in-depth experience of significant model development

  • Extensive data analysis/ processing knowledge/ skills with scripting experience an advantage

  • Experience and understanding of other transport modelling software VISUM.

  • Experience and understanding of traffic engineering/ junction design principals

  • Experience of presenting to large audiences

  • Project management (delivering large/medium transport planning projects including traffic modelling to quality standards, on time, and within budget)

  • Experience of line management and small to medium team management

  • Supervision of workload and support to junior staff

  • Business Development and proposal preparation

  • Capability to manage client contact and liaison without supervision

  • Leadership in producing quality client reports to a high technical standard

  • Involvement with broader business development activity and raising of the team’s and company’s profile

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant BSc/MSc/BEng Civil Engineering / Transport planning degree

  • ??Post-graduate qualifications an advantage

  • Membership or working towards membership of a chartered professional institution such as CIHT, TPS, CILT or ICE
