Job Summary

AECOM has a position available in our Greenwood Village, CO office for a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer to work on water / wastewater, mining and commercial industrial projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Working under limited supervision.

  • Provides training and technical support to design staff on Instrumentation and Control systems.

  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks with minimum oversight

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids related to instrumentation and control engineering and design development

  • Work under limited supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member, and be able to serve as the technical lead for projects coordinating work of entry-level staff

  • Design instrumentation and control systems for water/wastewater, industrial and mining facilities. The design includes preparing design drawings and specifications.

  • Provide design for fire alarm, telephone, security and grounding systems

  • Provide design for control system hardware and software (PLC and SCADA), control system networking, and process equipment control panels.

  • Review and coordinate instrumentation, process control system P&IDs, mechanical and HVAC systems and design their related electrical systems

  • Develop electrical equipment and instrumentation and control specifications

  • Review equipment shop drawings

  • Perform construction phase engineering support

  • Perform field inspections of instrument and control systems and attend system startup field activities

  • Ability to handle design and support of multiple projects at the same time

  • Potential to perform electrical system studies and calculations (load, harmonics, voltage drop, short circuit, coordination and arc flash)

  • Potential to perform electrical systems design including switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels, and other electrical distribution and utilization systems

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in I&C engineering or electrical engineering

  • Design experience with industrial instrumentation and controls systems.

  • Basic understanding with AutoCAD and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work with a diverse team

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with solid writing and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of work

  • Ability to work independently with oversight as necessary

  • Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations

  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and deadlines

  • Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code and other industry standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE Certification, or ability to obtain

  • Master's degree

  • Experience with electrical distribution systems design

  • Experience with power analytical software packages (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower)

  • Experience with Revit

  • Experience with AutoCAD

  • Experience leading I&C or electrical design team on projects

  • Experience as project manager on I&C or electrical projects
