Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Fire Investigator for the upcoming 4th Canadian Division Training Centre (4 CDTC) Meaford Site Support Services proposal. Candidates are required to have the skills to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Provide fire services at 4 CDTC facilities

  • Contain structural fires on site, to include CAF aircraft incidents and range fires

  • Provide/ensure firefighters are trained on range firefighting equipment to contain brush fires

  • Develop and implement a fire response and fire safety plan

  • Develop and implement an Operation Preventative Maintenance Plan for all firefighting vehicles, firefighting equipment and spill control systems

  • Inspect all buildings and equipment for fire/life safety risks in accordance with current manufacturer specifications, statues, acts, mandates, and policy.

  • Perform Fire investigations and provide subject matter expertise to cause and prevention;

  • Investigate fire events to determine origin, cause, and responsibility

  • Maintain Fire Safety and Emergency Response Standing Orders and building and site evacuation plans Review engineering plans to ensure compliance with National Fire and Building Codes, NFPA and other fire and life safety codes.

  • Provide training in basic firefighting procedures and HazMat spill responses

  • Maintain currency on all qualifications and carry out drills as required

  • Prepare and coordinate joint fire response training exercise plans

  • Participate in General Safety Committee meetings

  • Participate in directed investigations

  • Liaise with the Meaford Fire Department Fire Chief and other municipal emergency planning official on matters related to fire and hazardous material safety

  • Advice the PA on municipal or regional plan.

  • Respond to off-garrison HazMat incidents

  • Have knowledge of fire hazards found in various types of occupancies; of characteristics and behavior of smoke and fire and their effects on human life; of storage and handling of combustible, flammable and explosive materials; of modern practices to guard against the occurrence of fire or minimize losses and the most current means of protection

  • Possess the ability to determine the origin and cause of the loss/claim under investigation and identify any potential third-party responsibility

Minimum Requirements

  • NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator from an institution accredited through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or equivalent qualifications must be approved by the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal.
