Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a high level Mechanical Maintenance Technician VI for our highly complex, critical environment, pharmaceutical facility team in Groton, CT!

  • Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm; hours may vary based on critical business demand.

This maintenance mechanic is a senior level position responsible for providing high level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive and corrective maintenance on the facility mechanical equipment and systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Must have the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop AHU’s, split systems, compressors, refrigeration, boilers, etc. in an industrial environment. Strong mechanical/electrical skills are required, including the ability to work safely with 3-phase power up to and including 480V. Must demonstrate good written and verbal communication.

Must be experienced with Babbitt bearings and ground as well as slinger rings and pressurized lubrication systems.

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician VI must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Must understand working speeds, pressures and safety protocols with steam driven turbines in a power plant/distribution center.

  • Must have the ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs facility mechanical systems; pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems; conveyors; and overhead cranes.

  • Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and performs required preventive maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC/R equipment, blowers, and fans.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs heat exchange equipment.

  • Performs basic pipefitting repairs.

  • Perform welding and fabrication.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs basic electrical issues.

  • Assists in the movement of machines/fixtures, materials, and equipment as required.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical systems control and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.

  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment, yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Eight years of experience performing mechanical maintenance, operating and maintaining steam driven turbines for power generation in an industrial, large commercial, or warehouse environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination education and experience.

  2. Supervisory or leadership experience.

  3. Possess a State of Connecticut MT-1 Limited Heating Cooling Contractor License or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk extensively throughout the facility during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, twist, crawl, and climb repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel, work in cramped or confined spaces, or assume uncomfortable or tiring body positions repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, stairs, or scaffolding at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 100 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions, as needed.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree, high school or equivalent preferred.

  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.

  • Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.

  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

  • Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with the following equipment: feed water systems, water softener, condensate systems, natural gas and fuel oil fired steam boilers, turbine, air compressors and chemical water treatment.

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
