Job Summary

Our Building Services team are seeking an Regional/ Associate Mechanical Director to join the Building Engineering team based in our Cambridge office to help lead the team & design a number of UK & Overseas projects.

About the role:

We are growing our Building Services Team in Cambridge and this role is key to the teams development.

We are seeking an enthusiastic self-motivated person who has excellent written and verbal communication skills and who wants to make a difference in the mechanical field of building services as well as being involved with all other disciplines. We are specifically looking to appoint an Associate/ Regional Mechanical Director who has knowledge and experience in relevant areas, is familiar working closely with clients & Architects to deliver major UK, European & Worldwide projects. A strong knowledge and experience of the Cambridge market place is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To actively participate in the development of the team and grow AECOM’s market share in the local market as well as for projects further afield.

  • To act as discipline team leader for projects, from feasibility through to operational phase for Building Services Projects.

  • To manage a team/ office of engineers, specialists and coordinate and support the management team.

  • Ensure financial targets and internal KPI’s are meet including motivating others to contribute.

  • To prepare and present designs, reports and specifications.

  • To manage the design and construction stage activities with both external and internal teams.

  • Contribute to the update of AECOM standards.

  • Be competent to deliver, review & approve mechanical engineering calculations (IES/ Hevacomp).

  • To negotiate additional fees and change control.

  • To act as the main point of contact with design teams.

  • To act as project manager for the AECOM/Client contract, managing fee expenditure and program.

  • To act as a mentor to junior staff, promoting CPD activities.

  • To manage & build client and architect relationships with the aim to get new & repeat work

  • To maintain and enhance expertise within the team and as an individual.

  • To support and lead our 3D and BIM capabilities.

Minimum Requirements

To be a success in this role you will need to have or be

  • a relevant mechanical engineering degree (masters preferred)

  • chartered with a relevant body

  • extensive post qualification experience within an engineering consultancy environment

  • experience of line management and/or leading a team

  • experience of at least one of the following - healthcare sector, science sector or the Cambridge market

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree educated in electrical or building services engineering or related discipline, ideally Chartered or at least with qualifications leading to this.
