Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to recruit a waste and resources management consultant to join our waste and resources team.

The role will include advising clients on a wide range of waste, resources and circular economy issues in the UK and worldwide.

The successful candidate will have experience in waste and resource management and be familiar with the key issues in the sector.

We are looking for an ambitious team player who wishes to assist in the development of cost-effective practical solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding. The role would suit a self-motivated individual with a flair for problem solving, broad waste-sector knowledge, and the ability to network in order to get a job done. The role will be located in our Nottingham office.

AECOM’s waste and resources team provides a full range of services relating to waste management, from strategy and policy advice through to facility design and construction supervision. We work for a wide variety of clients, including national governments, local authorities and municipalities, manufacturing companies and other waste producers, and waste management companies. The team also acts as one of AECOM’s global centres of expertise in waste management, supporting projects in many different countries (recently including Mexico, Mozambique, China and Saudi Arabia).

We have an impressive portfolio of major national and international waste projects. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • Preparing waste and materials chapters for EIAs of high-profile projects such as HS2 and A303 Stonehenge.

  • Advising international pharmaceutical companies on how to reduce, reuse and recycle their manufacturing waste.

  • Developing waste management plans for infrastructure projects and residential/commercial developments

  • Assisting the Chinese Government to identify policy measures for improving construction waste management

  • Carrying out research projects for the Environment Agency in relation to end-of-waste and application of wastes to land

  • Obtaining environmental permits for recycling and disposal facilities

Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Prepare waste and materials chapters as part of environmental impact assessments for a wide range of developments

  • Develop waste management plans and strategies for private and public sector clients

  • Contribute to a wide range of other waste management projects including feasibility studies, audits and recycling/circular economy assessments

  • Reporting to a team leader you will also interface directly with other team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams.

  • You will have strong development skills and have the ability to develop in the role.

  • Have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to teach and develop junior staff.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and interactively within a multi-disciplinary design team.

  • Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in the waste management sector, preferably including some experience with a waste contractor or consultant.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong written English and experience in preparing written reports

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in relevant scientific or engineering subject (required).

  • Chartered status with a relevant institution (preferred)
