Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly talented TOC Shift Supervisor. This position will be a direct report to the Regional Floor Manager with direct communications with staff throughout their area of. The routine responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Real-time shift management and scheduling for readiness of operation

  • Provide TOC Operator mentoring, coaching, and training development

  • Maintain situational awareness of incidents and emergencies to ensure timely and appropriate management and resolution to the event

  • Communicate with mid and high level staff real-time event status

  • Assignment and assessment of TOC Operator secondary assignments

  • Present recurrent staff training needs and materials

  • Participation in floor staff audit program

  • Assume the role of Operator should operational needs exist

  • Oversee construction and special event coordination with implementation of traffic operations plans

  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures

  • Participation in incident analysis or other requested meetings

  • Other ad-hoc initiatives as assigned by the Project Management Team

Minimum Requirements

  • HS/GED Equivalent + 2 or more years prior experience as Traffic Monitoring Operator or other related experience

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in an office environment. Position requires frequent keyboard/mouse operations, performing repetitive fine hand movements, and sitting for long periods of time; rarely standing/walking. Position will include wearing a dispatch headset, viewing CCTV camera displays, and listening to law enforcement radio broadcasts

  • TOMC operator certifications for levels 1 and 2, Lead and Shift Leader

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Traffic Control Room Operator or in Civil Engineering or other Traffic Management related experience

  • Demonstrated leadership & time management skills

  • Self-supervision and team collaboration; ability to team with peers in supervision and across regions as required

  • Short-term or no notice assignments, On-Call Status; must be able to step-in and cover operations when needed, with no or limited notice

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong, accurate data entry skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment under stressful conditions

  • Must be able to work in a Control Room work environment

  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced environment requiring high level of multi-tasking

  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally, including ability to keep management and other peer supervisors apprised of operational issues

  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple, diverse and simultaneous inputs

  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under intense pressure

  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and on-call duties at a 24/7/365 operation center

  • Skilled in the use of Windows based applications, preferred Internet Explorer, Word, and Excel

  • Knowledge of two-way communication systems; radio and telecommunications experience

  • Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads

  • Knowledge of incident management response techniques and municipality and area traffic management organizations
