The Safety Officer works with site program management to oversee environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs, to include policies, processes, procedures and controls. Ensures contract performance conforms to established standards and complies with applicable Federal and customer environmental, health and safety requirements.
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
Manages, implements and maintains required EHS operational processes to ensure company and employee awareness, comprehension and adherence to approved environmental, health and safety practices.
Conducts oversight EHS inspections/audits of contract operations and subcontractors to ensure compliance to contract performance requirements and applicable EHS laws and regulations.
Implements hazardous and environmental waste programs in accordance with applicable requirements. Modifies applicable processes as required to ensure compliance.
Provides response to customer concerns and findings. Tracks corrective actions taken in response to internal and customer audit findings.
Provides guidance and direction to achieve compliance with all applicable safety and quality standards.
Acts as EHS representative/liaison to the customer.
Establishes, maintains and communicates program metrics related to injuries and incidents as needed. Includes reporting and liaison with assigned program.
Maintain the accident/injury log such as the OSHA Form 300 or host nation equivalent for site operations.
Maintains awareness of regulatory changes and disseminates information to operational staff.
Oversees injury and rolling stock incident investigations.
Ensures injury and incident trend and causal analysis and reporting, including recommendations to address identified issues.
Maintains technical library.
Provides leadership and knowledge to staff members and teams as necessary.

Knowledge & Skills
Advanced knowledge of EHS policies, procedures, processes, laws and regulations.
Working knowledge of laws, regulations and compliance for hazardous material (HAZMAT) and hazardous waste (HAZMAT) management.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel & Power Point. Access a plus.
Project planning and management skills.
Proven leadership ability. Ability to get results through influence, negotiation and teamwork.
Working knowledge of quality management systems, concepts, techniques, tools and procedures.
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental Management or an associated and related discipline (s). Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum five (5) years of directly relevant safety experience work required, preferably in government contracting or U.S. Military.
Must maintain a valid State Driver's license.
Position is subject to immediate recall and extended shifts during emergencies.
Position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
Must have and be able to maintain the following: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Inspector II, Hazardous Material Incident Commander, Health & Safety Officer, Incident Safety Officer, First Responder and CPR qualified and Airport Firefighter.
National Incident Management System certifications (NIMS): IS-100 and IS-200, IS-400, IS-700, IS-800.
IFSAC / Pro-board or State equivalent: Hazardous Materials Safety Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rope Rescue Technician-1, Structural Collapse Technician I & II, or Rescue Technician I & II, Emergency Vehicle Operator's certification (EVOC) preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a periodic basis
Must be able to be on feet for several hours at a time and be ambulatory and mobile to walk the worksites
Will spend approximately 50-75% of time in a controlled environment office setting
