Job Summary

AECOM’s Transportation Planning Division is actively seeking a creative and talented Senior Transportation/Environmental Planner for immediate employment in the Denver, Colorado Office. This position offers the opportunity to engage with our diverse team in a set of dynamic local and regional projects including corridor and environmental planning, and multimodal projects. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an educational and career path in transportation and/or environmental planning, with proven experience in supporting transportation NEPA and other related projects. The ideal candidate needs to demonstrate strong writing and organizational skills, works well independently and with the team, and has the ability to communicate clearly. Individual will play a key role in supporting the execution of large-scale plans and projects from initiation through completion. This includes project scoping, narratives to support documents, report compilation, responses to comments and project close-out. Needs to be able to coordinate with the internal team and clients effectively. Able to mentor others within the group.

Additional job responsibilities include:

  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed planning products.

  • Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility, industry, equipment or program function.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws.

  • Oversees specialized planning functions, such as large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies.

  • Provides overall management of IE-related planning issues.

  • Advises the Planning Director on all planning-related matters.

  • Advises various councils, boards, commissions and elected officials in planning related issues

  • Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities.

  • Prepares reports on operations and activities, recommending improvements and modifications.

Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, transportation planning, urban planning, transportation, GIS, public policy, or related area of study

  • Minimum ten years relevant planning experience

  • Master's degree in relevant discipline can substitute for up to two years of experience

  • Solid background in transportation and environmental planning

  • Strong research and writing skills, detail-oriented and able to communicate ideas and synthesize/compile text for reports

  • Ability to support public outreach with diverse communities

  • Strong understanding of pertinent environmental federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including recent changes, procedures and practices

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research, and data collection and analysis

Knowledge of transportation planning guidance, requirements, and processes

Knowledge of the NEPA process and related environmental requirements and processes

Knowledge of public outreach techniques and experience engaging the public in projects

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 6 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, transportation, urban planning, transportation, GIS, public policy, or related area of study from an ABET Accredited college or university.

  • 6 years relevant planning experience

  • Experience leading transportation planning projects (transit or roadway)

  • Strong understanding of pertinent environmental federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including NEPA.
