AECOM is seeking a Transportation Planner II in our Austin, Texas office.
Job responsibilities include:
Interprets and applies applicable government codes, ordinances and regulations.
Initiates actions necessary to correct deficiencies or violations of regulations.
Assists with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plan, transportation plan and land development regulations.
Acts as a liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials in developing neighborhood plans.
Conducts review of various development applications, including plats, permits, site plans, variance requests and rezonings.
Conducts extensive research in specific or general project areas.
Writes and presents formal and technical reports, working papers and correspondence.
Identifies community problems, issues and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning.
Additional job responsibilities include:
BA/BS + 2 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Experience with the following:
Designing, evaluating and planning the implementation of a state, city or town’s transportation system, such as buses, streetcars, and rail.
Support senior planners and/or project managers in producing technical documents, reports, graphics, and materials using software like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch-Up for community outreach on various Transportation and Transit Planning projects.
Collaborating with engineers, including transportation modeling specialists, to research, analyze or resolve complex transportation design issues and support in project delivery.
Assessing the impact of Land development and building guidelines on transportation systems, conduction projections for ridership and economic development as well as estimating capital and operational cost for a project using statistical and regression models.
The job involves having strong communication and writing skills for clients (public, government institute etc.) expressing both analytical findings and recommendations for improvement.
Transit routes and operational design, corridor planning, environment based feasibility studies are few skills used to perform this job efficiently.
Perform planning, research, and data collection and of relevant planning areas, such as, transportation, land use, and environmental science;
Perform standard statistical procedures using SPSS or R software;
Use knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations as they apply to transportation and emerging technologies;
Be responsible for public involvement process design, including development of group exercises, public/stakeholder input, and follow-up data analysis using public input;
Prepare technical reports, graphics and public-outreach materials using software like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch-Up Pro;
Perform travel demand forecasting for transit improvement project by analyzing land use, demographics, economic data, and travel behavior to understand the transit market and assess transit needs;
Conduct environmental compliance study of transit project under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA);
Analyze transportation systems and policies utilizing knowledge of land use and transportation planning principles, including trip generation and distribution, mode choice, roadway capacity and level-of-service, and land use/travel relationships;
Support Traffic Engineers with Traffic Impact Analysis Studies, using appropriate transportation planning software, such as SYNCHRO and VISSIM
Collaborate with engineers, including transportation modeling specialists, to research, analyze or resolve complex transportation design issues and support in project delivery
Conduct travel demand modeling using travel demand modeling software, in particular TransCAD
Assess the impact of land development and building guidelines on transportation systems, conduct projections for ridership and economic development, and estimate capital and operational cost for projects by using statistical and regression models
Conduct transit routes and operational design, corridor planning, environment based feasibility studies for projects.
Perform data visualization by creating interactive data dashboards using platforms such as Tableau and ArcGIS online;
Responsible for maintaining databases such as public-inputs and comments, Census, Land Use, Crashes, Socio-Economic, Signages by State Department of Transportation (DOTs) etc., using Access or SQL;
