The technical writer will perform technical writing functions for multiple projects including military maintenance, software, hardware technical manuals. The technical writer will create new and convert legacy technical manuals and training support materials into XML (eXtensible Markup Language) using the ASD S1000D XML specification. The technical writer will use engineering documentation, operator and maintenance manuals, logistics data, and direction from senior technical writer in order to create, write, revise, standardize, edit, review and finalize documents. The technical writer will prepare draft material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customer. The technical writer will utilize Adobe Acrobat 9, Arbortext, NAVAIR Standard IETM Viewer (NSIV), Eagle Publishing System (EPS), Microsoft Office and Oracle products. The technical writer must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new information and programs
Education: Bachelor's degree in an applicable technical field and 2 years technical experience or an Associates degree in an applicable technical field and 4 years technical experience. In lieu of degree a total of 6 years technical experience and a high school diploma is required.
Experience: Experience working with military technical documents related to technical manual development, delivery, and integrated logistics support (ARs, MIL STDs and MIL-PRFs, IETMs, TPDRs, DIDs, etc.) is recommended. Naval aviation organizational maintenance experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to prepare draft material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customer. Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to new information and programs. Ability to write in a clear and concise manner, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of Naval organizational and/or intermediate maintenance concepts. Must have the ability to research, review, and understand technical information and develop procedural information for technical documentation. Knowledge of Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development procedures using S1000D, and DoD MIL-STDs; Document Type Definitions, and style sheets used to develop product deliverables for all classes of IETMs is a plus.
