Job Description:

The Software Engineering department in Indianapolis is looking for software engineers to support development, test and other tasks throughout a software life cycle for a variety of projects. These could include software applications for Android mobile, Windows, Linux, and even proprietary or real-time embedded environment. As examples - software engineers will specifically develop software for the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) in support of Persistent Close Air Support (PCAS) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), avionics display software for the V-22 Osprey or HH-60 aircraft, embedded or real-time system software for products associated with pods that hang beneath aircraft such as the F-16, or graphics and simulation products to support ground or air platforms.

The software engineer II uses and provides creative solutions to complex technical system and software integration problems and may work closely with Systems Engineers to design ideal solutions with the end user and operational needs in mind. Software engineers will require flexibility and demonstrate adaptable behaviors in order to move between projects with processes and tools that are for different customers and follow various lifecycle models. This could include things such as supporting a team in a DevOps environment using commercial techniques and activities such as Pair Programming. Or as another example, individual problem solving in an integrated and cross-functional team using Agile Scrum but in a more serially phased overall development approach.

Multiple positions exist which could include supporting government and commercial programs under the direction of a more senior-level Engineer or additionally require helping a recent graduate learn the ropes. Support may also include both new and legacy systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Take a narrowly defined or ambiguously defined capability and translate it into a reusable software application using new technology, innovation, and creativity
  • Responsible for performing development, integration, test and documentation duties as assigned to ensure proper operation of the software platform
  • Work in agile and cross-functional environment and develop software, tailor reusable software, and integrate software components on virtual machines or target hardware
Requirements:
  • 2 or more years of software requirements, design, development, integration, and test
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work closely in a multi-discipline team on a daily basis
  • Strong Analytical skills
  • Experience with one or more languages such as C, C++, C#, JAVA
  • Knowledge in Android, Windows, and/or Linux operating system concepts
Other Requirements (Clearance, Travel & Special Work Environment):
  • United States Citizen as this position will need a US Security Clearance within 1 year of start date
  • May occasionally need to travel for customer meetings, integration, and installations

  • Experience and knowledge related to one or more specific technologies or Department of Defense domains:

  • Experience with requirements and use case analysis
  • Experience with scripting (Ruby, Perl, Python, PHP, etc.)
  • Experience with agile (Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban, SAFe, eXtreme Programming, etc)
  • Experience and/or knowledge with DevOps and Continuous Integration/Delivery
  • Experience and/or knowledge with an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) like Android Studio, Eclipse, MS Visual Studio, and Team Foundation Server
  • Experience and/or knowledge with one or more databases (e.g. SQLite)
  • Experience with Automated Testing and Automated Test Frameworks
  • Experience with technologies such as .NET, XML, WPF, GL Studio, Linux, VxWorks, AWS, Unreal Engine
  • Experience with Real-time Operating Systems
