Infrastructure Services Australia offers a wide range of professional consulting services to private and public sector clients to deliver projects of any size in both urban and remote environments in the following key areas:

  • Transport, Buildings and Defence Infrastructure (road, rail, bridges, ports, aviation, buildings and defence infrastructure)
  • Utilities, Water and Environment (water treatment, wastewater treatment, bulk water distribution, asset management, flood modelling, disaster resilience, total catchment management, specialist environmental sciences, planning and engagement, GIS services).

The opportunity:

With a strong pipeline of work in Victoria, we are seeking a Senior Urban Planner to join our Environment team based in Melbourne. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary team environment and is interested in making a significant contribution to important government and community projects, including major transport and water infrastructure, currently being delivered in Victoria including the Level Crossing Removal Projects, Inland Rail and Melbourne Water Capital Works Program.

The successful candidate will work closely with the planning and approvals team and other specialist colleagues across the business, including industry experts. These include ecology, sustainability, project management, spatial science, and water and transport engineering services.

Your understanding and knowledge of the Victorian Planning and Environment Act 1987 is what some may say is exemplary. Permit applications and planning scheme amendments are your bread and butter and you'll be providing rigour and confidence in coordination and negotiation during the approvals process. You also appreciate environmental and heritage management and associated approvals processes.

You'll be liaising with a diverse set of stakeholders from authorities to local government to clients to internal stakeholders to name only a few.

Key responsibilities:

  • The completion of Land Use and Planning Assessments, Approval Strategies, Planning Permit Applications, Planning Scheme Amendments, Environmental Management Plans & Strategies and other planning related management plans
  • Provide analysis across a wide spectrum of planning issues including amenity (air and noise), flora and fauna, heritage, transport planning, urban design, structure planning and social effects, with specialist expertise in one or more of these fields
  • Broad understanding of, and experience in the application of Commonwealth, State and local legislation and regulations, policies and guidelines, with discrete knowledge of planning related legislation
  • External stakeholder consultation including local and state government regulators
  • Internal stakeholder consultation and collaboration with a range of technical disciplines to develop positive planning outcomes for project delivery.

About you:

Whilst you may not come from a consultancy background, you have an appreciation for the environment in which we work in.

Your communication style and approach has developed over your career and you feel comfortable and confident in front of clients or authorities.

In the end, you would say that you have enthusiasm for achieving good planning and design outcomes, and understand how they can be a key contributor to KBR.

Finally, you have:

  • Bachelor degree in planning, or similar
  • Maintain and provide evidence of a current Driver’s Licence
  • Solid statutory planning skills
  • Great ability to manage projects and provide accurate and timely advice
  • Hold a degree in Urban Planning or equivalent and eligibility for PIA membership
  • Relevant statutory or strategic planning experience within a consultancy, state or local government environment in Victoria.
