FTI has an exciting opportunity for a US Navy Instructor supporting the Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, RI. In this role you will train junior officers in navigation as “sea-bound warriors” in order to meet the Navy’s mission of maintaining global maritime superiority. Collaborate with Fleet Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), training course supervisors and instructors, and Graphic Artists to develop instructor-led curriculum and instructional multi-media (IMM).
Research technical material and Navy references including internet searches, searches of various Navy sites, and searching within PDF documents.
Create lesson plans, teaching guides, and course schedules in accordance with Navy Education and Training Command Technical Manuals (NAVEDTRAs).
Align identified tasks and skills to learning objectives which are observable and measurable.
Conduct training needs analysis to determine requirements for revision of existing instructional programs.
Implement adult learning theory into curriculum and supplemental training materials.
Guide, review, and approve the sequence of learning experiences based upon learning psychology, behaviorism, cognition, and information processing.
Develop testing instruments to pre-test learners previous achievement levels; create test banks to assess learner’s performance.
Provide technical guidance to develop competency-based outcomes that promote the standards of the U.S. Navy surface fleet, predominantly surface navigation and bridge watchstanding.
Essential Skills and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology or Instructional Systems Design OR Recent STEM Graduate or similar program from other college/university OR Prior Surface Warfare Officer, Navigator; Prior enlisted Navy Quartermaster or Operations Specialist rate .
A combination of relevant experience and certification such as the US. Navy’s Master Training Specialist (MTS) may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
Instructional System Design experience and specialized experience in developing and revising training materials and educational instructions combined with strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Word, Adobe is a plus.

Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with team members and customers at all levels
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Highly Preferred: Active DoD Secret security clearance; must be US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain clearance as required
Preferred: Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance
Preferred experience or knowledge of web or e-learning production, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM, Section 508, and common web development applications
Experience working as an effective team member in a focused, dynamic, fast-paced team environment with accountable deadlines
Experience with enlisted Navy navigation and/or engineer ratings
Experience in similar job duties and responsibilities
Experience designing multimedia desktop simulations or interactive training and/or e-learning content
Effective technical communicator and writer
