Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer for employment in the Tampa, Florida office. AECOM is searching for candidates with a background and interest in civil site development and/or geotechnical engineering having the ability to be part of a collaborative project team, be client-focused, and produce great works. This individual will participate in all aspects from project identification through conceptual and final designs, and provide support during construction.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare computer aided designs for the civil aspects of projects (facility siting and layouts, grading, drainage systems, utilities, and site features)

  • Coordinate project requirements and features with other civil designers as well as other disciplines including architecture, structural, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, environmental and landscape

  • Participate in site field investigations and client / user interviews to identify project needs, constraints and opportunities

  • Research and identify governing criteria, codes and best practices, a prepare basis of design documentation

  • Perform assignments related to planning, design and construction phase services on multidiscipline projects following standard practices, and allowing development of professional work knowledge and abilities

  • Work under the supervision of project managers and senior civil designers and other senior-level team members

  • Assist in civil engineering evaluations, reports, analyses and designs for existing and new facilities and other related opportunities

  • Participate in geotechnical investigations, data gathering, analyses, evaluations and report preparation for a variety of site development, transportation, water resources, building and industrial facilities

  • Preparing project drawings and exhibits using AutoCAD and Civil3D

  • Interact with the full project team including multiple technical disciplines and supporting professionals

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 2 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in site development (layouts, grading and utilities) and/or geotechnical (exploration programs, analyses and reporting)

  • U.S. Citizenship and able to satisfy a security background check for access to Department of Defense and other Governmental facilities

  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals

  • Proficiency with civil drafting software including AutoCAD

  • Experience preparing design calculations and design documents (plans and specifications)

  • Good verbal communications and technical writing skills

  • Proficiency using spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software

  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, a critical thinker, and willing to take on new opportunities

  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environmentExperience with some or all of the following: pavement designs, roadways and parking lots, shoreline stabilization, storm water management, demolition, surveying, and construction support services.

  • Educational and/or work experience with geotechnical analyses of including those related to: characterization of materials, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, settlement estimates, earth retaining structures, seepage, and ground improvement

  • Working knowledge of site design software such as Civil3D, Auto Turn, GeoPak, ICPR and GIS

  • Experience using geotechnical analysis software such as GeoStudio, UTexas, SLOPE, SEEP, LPILE, SHAFT, FLAC and FB-Deep

  • A Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering
