Job Summary

We are currently recruiting for a bright and enthusiastic Climate Change or Carbon Consultant to join our UK-wide Business Sustainability team. The team has a well-deserved reputation for working with clients throughout the design and planning process to produce robust climate assessments and carbon footprints that can be used with confidence in decision making.

The successful candidate will have a primary focus on delivery support for carbon and climate assessments of infrastructure projects as part of EIA and ESIA activities. Our flexible working programme means that the successful candidate can be based in either Bristol or Basingstoke.

As a Climate Change/Carbon Consultant your typical working week will be varied and may include:

  • Speaking with colleagues, Design Teams and other client advisors to gather project information and to raise awareness of the climate assessment process;

  • Processing and quality checking project data for use in quantitative carbon assessments;

  • Developing reasonable project-based assumptions to address data gaps;

  • Effective analysis of carbon impacts and relevant mitigation measures;

  • Joining project and client calls to discuss scheme updates and assessment progress and data needs;

  • Working with project managers to respond to stakeholder clarifications and consultations;

  • Supporting project managers with technical, quality and financial management;

  • Helping to prepare costed proposals and other business development materials (e.g. for webinars, flyers, case studies, etc.); and

  • Working across several projects and proposals, including those around sustainable infrastructure, climate change/ sustainability strategy, carbon footprints for products and enterprises, and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).

  • Under general supervision, provides analysis on projects. Executes work plans and task definition, participates in data collection.

  • Participates in development of solutions to client problems with a focus on financial analysis and capital investment under the guidance of a more senior manager.

  • Assigned as a consultant to a wide variety of areas.

Minimum Requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with the following:

  • Experience in carbon accounting and reporting;

  • Holistic understanding of sustainability, with a particular interest in carbon management;

  • Familiarity with the requirements for climate assessment in EIA and ESIA;

  • Solid numeracy skills, confidence in working with large data sets and advanced Excel skills;

  • Strong research and report writing capability (including web-based research);

  • Great communication skills in English, fluency in other languages an advantage;

  • Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation;

  • Problem solving abilities. Self-starter, who can design and deliver work under own initiative;

  • Project and financial management experience would be beneficial.

Ideally, you will have previous experience with a consultancy firm, although applications are also welcome from candidates with industry/corporate backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant MSc or equivalent qualification in Sustainability, Carbon, Energy or similar, and a strong undergraduate degree in a STEM based subject;
