The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program, is seeking a highly motivated full time Command Control and Communications (C3S) Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership for the C3S IPT located at the Raytheon facility located in Aurora, CO
Raytheon is developing the next-generation global weather satellite system. The JPSS program is developing, deploying, and sustaining the JPSS Common Ground System which includes the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) and the Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S). This leadership role is for the JPSS C3S Chief Engineer on the C3S Team and will report directly to the C3S IPT lead.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for technical oversight of the full C3S architecture and design effort. This role is ideal for someone with knowledge of the C3S software and hardware system as well as strong knowledge of the Raytheon process that governs the development effort. Additionally, since C3S is also in full sustainment, this person will oversee the technical deployment of the system to ensure minimal technical issues and operational impacts.
JPSS C3S Chief Engineer will work closely with a cross site engineering team between Aurora, CO and Riverdale, MD. The C3S Chief Engineer is responsible for the oversight and leadership of all problem resolution boards and oversees the dispositioning of the work into the appropriate effort. (I.e. Work Request (WRRP), Discrepancy Report (DRRP), Problem Change Request (PCRB)…) Additionally, this person will work closely with the JPSS Chief Engineer to ensure the C3S development is in alignment with the JPSS effort. Finally, this person will be a key technical lead/player on all C3S proposals, studies and ROMs. As the C3S Chief Engineer, this individual will regularly interface with customers on technical and operational issues and oversee detailed development and deployment efforts for multiple operational sites.
While the C3S IPT is split across three primary work locations: Aurora, CO, Suitland, MD and Riverdale, MD, the C3S Chief Engineer must provide technical direction and leadership to a broader team which includes Mission/Quality Assurance, Software Configuration Management, Computers & Storage, Hardware, Deployed Systems Team, Security and several others within JPSS.
As the C3S Chief Engineer, this person will be expected to work closely with the customers: NOAA Operations, NASA Engineering, and NASA Mission Assurance to ensure the technical architecture and implementation of the system is top notch. The C3S Chief Engineer must be an excellent communicator and capable of pulling significant amounts of data together to ensure the team is functioning optimally and accurately to achieve success. The C3S Chief Engineer must also be able to effectively work cross function as the team is made up of many different experts (I.e. HW, SW, SE, INF/SA, Network, and Security) to ensure success.
The individual needs to be a highly motivated, technically astute engineer that can quickly learn/assimilate complex situations/problems, identify root cause, formulate corrective action plans, communicate effectively and drive to a viable and effective technical resolution.
