AECOM has an immediate opening for an Environmental Planner V position to take a leadership role in our Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) team’s project management and client development efforts in the greater southern San Francisco and Monterey Bay region. The IAP team focuses on environmental policy, impact analysis (CEQA and NEPA), and assisting clients with regional and project-specific planning, permitting and compliance services. Based primarily at our downtown San Jose office, a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills is desired to implement a strategic approach to addressing the needs of our clients. The position will have a strong emphasis on servicing and broadening our regional clients, which include regional agencies and municipalities as well as private clients.
The successful candidate will interact with AECOM offices to craft and lead efforts in the areas of strategic planning, policy development and environmental compliance services.
AECOM is seeking candidates with a demonstrated ability to manage projects, successfully interface with clients, apply sound business development and marketing strategies, and prepare proposals and deliverables that respond to our clients’ needs. Leadership and internal team management and development skills are essential. Key responsibilities include:
In coordination with key regional managers in IAP and other AECOM Business Units, provide leadership in business development and marketing activities through outreach to local and regional public agencies and private clients within the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas.
Generate proposals and contracts with other managers and marketing staff, and anticipate, track and obtain new task orders from existing clients.
Plan, execute, and deliver complex projects in a collaborative environment involving a range of technical specialists and contractors, including planners, engineers, and other technical staff.
Manage projects through completion and in accordance with a negotiated scope of work and budget; engage staff, assign project responsibilities, and manage internal teams and subcontractors to meet schedule and budget.
Manage preparation of technical studies and environmental documents for completeness and accuracy, and lead or support a wide range of planning, policy development and permit-acquisition projects.
Track budgets and perform quality assurance and quality control responsibilities in accordance with AECOM guidelines and policies.
Provide advice, mentor and enhance the professional development of staff within the group.
Contribute substantially to the identification and development of new IAP business opportunities and strategic initiatives.
Fulfill requirements as a certified AECOM Project Manager (PM) and be responsible for the financial performance of projects with direct involvement of Program Managers and Financial Assistants.
BA/BS in Environmental Planning or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Experienced with CEQA / NEPA with major infrastructure pursuits and projects
The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience with directing and managing CEQA and NEPA analyses for public agency projects.
Knowledge of other environmental laws and policies is also required. An ideal candidate must possess effective problem-solving abilities, client interface and management expertise, demonstrated marketing and business development capability, exceptional writing and communication skills, and an ability to ensure performance of internal technical teams and subcontractors.
Experience working within both the public sector and as a private consultant is a plus
