Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an Archaeologist II for full-time employment in the Atlanta, GA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

This role will provide field and lab support to cultural resource projects throughout the Southeast as available. The Archaeologist will have experience with environmental compliance, field surveys and linear transportation assessments.

The archeologist will perform the following:

Performs routine fieldwork (such as environmental sampling, assisting with calculations, and operations, maintenance and inspection of equipment of client site), working under close supervision.

Technical reports

Performs routine tasks in support of project staff and handles less complex duties.

  • Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.

  • Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.

  • Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.

  • Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.

  • Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Works under general supervision.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field;

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology; a graduate degree in Anthropology or a related field can substitute for 2 years of experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and / or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or related field;

  • Relevant field experience, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring, in Southeast; specifically Georgia

  • Experience working on Georgia Department of Transportation projects

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop;

  • Works well in a team environment;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
