Job Summary

We are seeking visionary and dynamic Operations leadership for our Central Planning & Urbanism Business (inclusive of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Design).

Primary responsibility is to drive operational performance for the Regional Planning & Urbanism business within the Building + Places group with a focus on project performance, staff utilization, resource management, fee strategy, and contracting terms. The role dual reports to the Central Region B+P Director of Operations and the Americas Planning & Urbanism Operations Lead and works in collaboration with the B+P Central Regional Business Line Leader, the Central Planning Lead, and the Central Urbanism Lead to drive performance on all Planning & Urbanism operations within the region.

The Buildings + Places (B+P) Business Line, within DCSA, incorporates the Architecture, Building Engineering, Interior Design, Planning, Economics, Landscape Architecture, and Strategy+ Consulting Services across key markets including Cities, Corporate, Government, Transportation, Education, Healthcare, Justice, Mission Critical, Themed Entertainment/Leisure and Sports markets. Our Buildings + Places teams have planned and designed renowned urban environments including Liberty Park, New York; 34 th Street Harbor, Chicago; Denver Union Station, Denver; Yards West, Washington, DC; One Shenzhen Bay Landscape, China; Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, Washington, DC; LA2028 Olympic Bid, Los Angeles; Golden 1 Center Urban Plan, Sacramento, CA.

We are seeking an individual with an operations background in Planning, Landscape Architecture, and/or Urban Design with experience practicing in the Central U.S. (e.g. Gulf South or Midwest).


  • Responsible for the financial and operational performance of the Planning & Urbanism Business within the Central Region, including overall profitability of the group

  • Work in collaboration with Regional and National Leadership to align operations and allocate resources to execute the strategic growth plan

  • Lead a culture of innovation and collaboration

  • Partner with Planning & Urbanism practices in the Central Region to drive operational and financial improvements in the business

  • Champion change – makes the AECOM vision understandable, creates buy-in to the vision by linking day-to-day work to the attainment of the vision, engages and mobilizes others to drive change, reduces organizational ambiguity


Preferred home base in one of the top regional cities (e.g. Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, Kansas City, Denver, St. Louis, etc…).


An attractive compensation package commensurate with the significant responsibility and importance of this position will be offered to the successful candidate.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Masterplanning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum 10 years' experience including 2 years in leadership

  • Experience driving operational performance and improvements in an Architecture/Engineering Firm

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Planning, Masterplanning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Architecture, or Engineering

  • Certification or relevant credentialing

  • Deep knowledge of the marketplace, clients, contracting terms, labor force management, pricing, and Utilization metrics

  • Experience practicing in the Central United States (e.g. Gulf South, Midwest)

  • Other expertise may include concentrated experience in B+P client markets such as; Cities, Government, Transportation, Corporate, Commercial, Justice, Healthcare, Mission Critical, and Higher Education. Each considered an important market sector to the role
