Database Administrator

KBR has an immediate need for a Database Administrator in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. KBR, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) (http://eros.usgs.gov/) performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center (Sioux Falls, SD) (http://www.siouxfalls.org) and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The multidisciplinary staff, in partnership with NASA, use their unique expertise in remote sensing-based science and technologies to carry out research, data acquisition, information access and management and archive preservation to provide satellite ground imagery data to users and science organizations around the world. This effort represents the world's longest continuously-acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data with over four decades of image collection.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform database administration, installation, maintenance, and proper licensing of systems, including installation of database software, patches, and upgrades
  • Perform database backup and recovery duties, establish standards and schedules for database backups, develop and test recovery procedures for each database, and ensure backup schedules meet the recovery requirements
  • Install, upgrade, and configure Oracle/PostgreSQL/MySQL Servers and related tools
  • Maintain the integrity of Project databases and ensure that the security requirements for the database servers are met
  • Write and debug shell scripts and database programs that enhance the utility of systems and provide an effective user interface to other systems
  • Provide and maintain current documentation of databases, database configurations, administrative tools, and procedures for implementation/adaptation of products and services.
  • Provide database expertise to software developers and participate in peer reviews of database code and design
  • Maintain a current awareness of database industry trends and uses to enhance the support provided to the Project staff
  • Perform research and development in anticipation of technological database system innovations
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential
  • Provide on-call support
