Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Geologist for employment in the Buffalo, NY office. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career by gaining valuable work experience within a scientific team in an established consultancy. Your work will cover a broad range of geological and environmental science activities. You’ll work with other experienced members of the team who will guide you as you start working on live projects, including environmental site investigations for a variety of projects in a variety of locations. An integral part of your role will be report writing, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. You’ll be involved in field work such as environmental site investigations, soil and bedrock borings and monitoring well installations, sampling of environmental media, support of remedial systems, and other similar tasks. Your initial focus on gaining site experience will gradually transition into taking more responsibility for interpreting data and preparing reports.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Site work, including collection of groundwater and surface water data and supervision of borehole drilling and testing

  • Collation, processing and analysis of data into existing and new databases

  • Desk study evaluation of project geology, hydrogeology, and environmental media analytical data

  • Supporting preparation of graphical and GIS deliverables

  • Contributing to continued innovation and business development

  • Involvement with and support to the environmental studies team and other disciplines such as environmental science and civil and environmental engineering

  • Some project locations and assignments may require periods of travel of multiple days or multiple weeks in a row.

  • Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.

  • Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Entry-level position; may not require previous experience.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree qualified with an BA/BS in geology or similar environmental science

  • OSHA 40 Hr HAZWOPER certification

  • Ability to travel domestically for 40% or more of the time

  • Enthusiastic with excellent report writing skills

  • Valid U.S. State Driver's Licence

  • Previous site experience

  • Strong oral communication skills

  • Experience with office software, databases, GIS
