Job Summary

Our Los Angeles Buildings + Places Studio is a multi-disciplinary design practice featuring professionals in Urban Design, Master Planning, Architecture, Interiors, Landscape Architecture, and Economics. Our projects vary widely in size, type, scope and complexity, and often draw on collaborations with other disciplines within the AECOM family such as Transportation, Energy, Water, and Building Engineering. These cross-disciplinary collaborations create a unique and unparalleled environment for learning about and shaping the built world. We are looking for a designer who wants to apply their passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive work environment. The designer will be working with project teams and assisting on conceptual and schematic design packages, working drawings, supporting RFP responses and interview preparation materials.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for design & planning solutions. Applicants

should have strong capabilities in 3D modeling and architectural visualization. Candidate

must be able to lead a team effort, work independently and help develop the more junior staff.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Maintain a line of communication and a collaborative working relationship with the AECOM Leadership team

  • Help coordinate projects with all consultants

  • Able to actively participate in a project from beginning to end

  • Ability to communicate design concept and intent through various media is critical both to internal team as well as with clients.

  • Strong planning ability with communications skills to lead a client thru not only a plan but overall design concept

  • Assists in preparation of designs, quantity calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings

  • Maintains conformance with building standards, established architectural practices, and applicable building codes

  • Participates in business development activities through client contact with Leadership and other team members

  • Supervise interns and junior and intermediate designers at all phases of the project

  • Help the team to stay on time and on budget

  • Help in recruiting new employees

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Interior design from an accredited university

  • 10+ years' expertise, with an emphasis on Corporate, Entertainment, or Technology

  • Experience in not only space planning and design concept development but also in all phases of the project including predesign through construction administration

  • Working knowledge of building codes, standards and building structures

  • Work on multiple projects guiding other team members

  • Experience in programming large clients with groups of varied and competing needs

  • Thorough knowledge of the design process, including FF&E, furniture systems and specifications, color and material

  • Flexibility to travel within the United States

  • Experience and proficiency with BIM-Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, Photoshop, or other related CADD and 3D type software

  • Working knowledge in the use of computers for making architectural drawings, calculations and 3-D visual simulations

  • Basic knowledge of standard construction techniques and principles

  • Experience working on projects of 50,000+ or larger

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years' expertise, with an emphasis on Corporate, Entertainment, or Technology

  • Corporate interior experience through all phases including large scale (150,000+ sq. feet) in the LA Metro region

  • LEED Accreditation a plus

  • RA, NCIDQ or CID preferred or in the process of obtaining
