AECOM’s PMCM business line is actively seeking an Environmental Technician to join our environmental tech team at Fort Polk. The Environmental Laboratory Technician will provide support to the Fort Polk laboratory and perform analytical tests required to maintain compliance with RCRA-C.
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Perform all required maintenance, calibration and cleaning of equipment in order to maintain laboratory accreditation and ensure quality analysis;
Analyze, collect, preserve package, ship, document, review QC, interpret results and maintain records for all samples being sent to an external laboratory;
Analyze preserve, document, perform and review QA/QC, interpret results and maintain records for all samples analyzed at the JRTC & Fort Polk Environmental Laboratory;
Repair/Replace and maintain equipment, chemical reagents, quality control and calibration standards;
Maintain operational miscellaneous supplies to include but not limited to: thermometers, PPE, filters, pipettes and tips, tweezers, gases, slides, refraction fluids, glassware, petri dishes, vessels and foil;
Maintain a list of expenditures for supplies and equipment to be included on monthly reports;
Maintain a list of laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure adequate supplies are always kept on hand.
Perform required annual maintenance of equipment such as: source replacement for instruments, annual filter replacements for hoods, microscope cleaning and alignment, probes for pH equipment, wipe tests, lamp replacements etc.
Maintain operational equipment: incubators, auto stirrers, pumps, flash point testers, hot plates, pH meters, water baths, multi-parameter analyzer, refrigerator, incubators, field test equipment, hoods, vacuum pumps, analytical balance and analyzer probes.
Assist the laboratory with maintaining its EPA, LDEQ, SDWA, CWA and LDHH required laboratory certifications for Analysis;
Perform necessary test for microbiologic analysis to determine the potability of drinking water;
Conduct QA/QC requirements to maintain laboratory certification for microbial drinking water analysis;
Maintain certifications necessary for valid collection of drinking water samples.
Ensure proper management of supplies and samples identified as requiring management as a biohazard.
Maintain records of storm water sampling, including sampling, QA/QC and chain of custody documentation;
Perform requirements necessary to ensure compliance with JRTC & Fort Polk Reg 200-1 for the duties of the Environmental Compliance Officer for the Laboratory in particular the handling and management of hazardous materials and wastes.
Analyze, submit and maintain accreditation for drinking water, SDWA, CWA and general environmental sample analysis including participating in proficiency testing and on-site inspections required for the preceding accreditation.
High School Diploma/GED equivalent and 6+ years of relevant experience OR AA/AS and 4+ years of relevant experience.
Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.

Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dryness, noise, and dust. Position requires frequent standing/walking; often lifting of less than 25 pounds, occasionally lifting of 25-50 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment.
