Job Summary

The Program and Construction Management Business Unit of AECOM is actively seeking an agile, highly talented Senior Project Manager-Retail Design to assist teams for retail fuels projects across the United States. From programming through construction, this position will drive the preparation and coordination of design deliverables and documentation and require management of consultants in the effort. This program will consist of work on retail fuel related projects including ground up new construction to include site work and underground fuel tank installations, renovation, and rebranding. The position is located in our Richmond or Arlington, Virginia or Charleston, South Carolina office.


  • Effectively coordinate all design deliverables and follow projects from inception through successful completion for a portfolio of projects, ensuring quality sign offs as required. This includes, but is not limited to, programming, layouts, feasibility studies, design packages, handoff packages, construction documentation, permit sets, and handover to building openings and operations.

  • Develop and manage the design scope of all project work.

  • Determine and organize functional requirements, providing high level programming, schematic design planning, and code analysis.

  • Direct an both internal and external teams of architects and engineers to design, document, coordinate, and execute multiple simultaneous high-quality projects in line within the project guidelines.

  • Communicate with all stakeholders to include the Client, project team, internal and external consultants; coordinate with Architect of Record (AOR) and Engineer of Record (EOR) on all projects.

  • Provide guidance on internal and external RFI submissions and submittals.

  • Raise Change Orders as needed and provide guidance on requests for changes for consultants, vendors, and contractors

  • Oversee production of a comprehensive and coordinated construction document set of plans which adhere to local building codes, ADA, zoning, and any other applicable jurisdictional requirements as well as the Clients design standards

  • Institute and maintain documentation and project management standards.

  • Communicate project updates regularly to management such as the status of each project, potential issues, risks, related insights to support performance, workflow and design efficiency improvements, etc.

  • Lead internal and external team meetings (virtual and F2F) as needed, providing clear, concise and actionable agendas and communication.

  • Ensure design deliverables adhere to any quality assurance policies and procedures for design, documentation and project management.

  • Interview and provide feedback on consultant, vendor, and contractor proposals.

  • Travel to sites as needed throughout the US

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Architecture + 6 years of experience or AA/AS (US) + 8 YORE or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 8 YORE or HS/GED + 10 YORE

  • Professional design experience in high quality commercial projects with expertise in leading and implementing efficient and effective design process related initiatives.

  • Excellent time management skills and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously; ability to prioritize tasks and work on both short term and long-term solutions simultaneously.

  • Process oriented, detail oriented, reliable and focused.

  • Thorough knowledge of building materials and construction details and experience working with, building codes, ADA, zoning, and any other applicable jurisdictional requirements.

  • Understanding of project budgeting and scheduling with a focus on soft costs.

  • Ability to communicate and work closely with external consultants to ensure that project milestones and deliverables are being met.

  • Excellent decision-making skills and a highly resourceful problem solver.

  • Ability to initiate and establish business relationships with internal business partners and external consultants.

  • Clear communicator and excellent presenter with oral, written, and graphic representation skills.

  • Proficient in the following programs: Revit, all things Google, Bluebeam Revu, and BIM.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years professional design experience in high quality commercial projects with expertise in leading and implementing efficient and effective design process related initiatives.
