Title:

C-130J Modification Installation Engineer

KBR is seeking a Journeyman Engineer to provide System Program Office (SPO) support of C-130J aircraft modifications at Robins AFB, Warner Robins GA. This position will primarily support Block Upgrade (BU) 7.0/8.1 modification kit Installations in accordance with approved Time Critical Technical Orders (TCTOs), engineering data/drawings, and United States Government (USG) produced work cards.

The person filling this position should be able to use a general knowledge of current systems engineering and aircraft modification/maintenance techniques in support of C-130J aircraft system modification to assess technological and operational requirements, and recommend solutions to installation problems involving one or more avionics devices, structural mounting, interconnections, routing, and operational/functional checkout.

Of particular value will be a working knowledge of USAF aircraft modification standards and best practices, functional/physical configuration audits, and technical data analysis or review. The ideal candidate will have experience in C-130J Modification, Repair, and Overhaul (MR&O) or its equivalent.

The candidate should be able to work with minimal direction as part of an on-site, on-aircraft team comprised of USAF aircraft modification engineers and technicians, equipment specialists, and OEM representatives. There will be extensive collaboration/coordination with Electrical, Mechanical, Structures, and Safety Engineering teams at WPAFB, Robins AFB, and Lockheed Martin.

Qualifications/Experience

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering discipline
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in aircraft MR&O of large-body aircraft. Preference for C-130 or equivalent modification or maintenance experience.
  • Electrical and/or mechanical engineering knowledge in support of aircraft modifications consisting primarily of avionics installation, wire harness routing and structural mounts. Preference for Mobility aircraft & powerplant (A&P) credentials or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of aircraft safety, damage prevention, and security requirements.
  • Knowledge of aircraft modification/maintenance procedures and inspection systems, as well as aircraft materials/parts regulations.
  • Knowledge of DoD avionics/aircraft test equipment handling, instrumentation, and calibration requirements beneficial.
  • Knowledge of DoD Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) and COMSEC handling procedures beneficial.
  • US Citizenship required. Candidate must hold or must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Primary Tasks

Participate in the implementation of Time Critical Technical Orders (TCTOs) and related modification kit installation guidance. Investigate technical problems. Assist investigation and resolution of installation related issues. Interpret and recommend changes to baseline technical data. Assess and report potential for aircraft/modification design impacts.

Work within and facilitate the use of USG and OEM engineering/technical assistance request procedures and tools to ensure clear communication of on-aircraft discoveries and potential impacts to other installation sites.

Following approved procedures and standards,

  • Perform analysis of source data and apply acquired knowledge and skills to create products.
  • Assist preparation for and execution of installation-associated operational and functional checks.
  • Assist preparation for and accomplishment of quality assurance spot-checks, scheduled inspections, audits, and acceptance of completed modification(s).

Provide engineering liaison effort to support the kit installation tasks. Collaborate and coordinate with other Program and technical disciplines, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Operations, and potential suppliers/vendors.

Assist determination of level-of-hazard for aircraft conditions that could affect performance discovered during kit-installation activities, but unrelated to modification activities.

Additional Details

Position may require periodic travel to the SPO at WPAFB OH, other C-130J aircraft modification sites, and Lockheed Martin facilities in Marietta GA.

Position will report to the SPO-designated Modification Manager co-located at Robins AFB for day-to-day activities, and SPO EN for interpretation and application of processes related to kit installations and potential installation/kit design impacts.
