AECOM's Piscataway, NJ office is currently seeking an O&M Technician to support a key local project, operating and maintaining a groundwater injection and extraction system as part of an ongoing site remediation project.
This field-based role operates, maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots state-of-the art and purpose–built monitoring and sampling equipment. The field project site is located in Hudson County, NJ. Working alongside other AECOM team members, this full-time role works independently under the oversight of the assigned Environmental Engineer. Some weekend hours required.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Performing a variety of tasks in support of project staff.
May gather and maintain specified records of scientific data for supervisor, including but not limited to environmental sampling, operations and maintenance and inspections at client sites. Other activities may include assisting with calculations, setting up and operating equipment, inspecting equipment and installations for compliance with specifications and maintaining proper project documentation. Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.
Treatment system machines and equipment to treat groundwater for disposal: Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of groundwater into treating plant, and regulate injections into select remediation wells.
Monitoring specified amounts of chemicals are being supplied as required into water or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into system.
Starting well pumps, injection pumps and transfer pumps.
Turning valves to regulate water and reductant flow through system.
Monitoring the pumping of extracted water and injected reductant.
Monitoring panel boards and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, pressure, water elevation, and distribution of water.
Repairing and lubricating machines and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
Recording miscellaneous data as required.
Participating in finalizing / developing procedures for operation of the treatment system.
Adhering to the site’s General Site Conditions.
Adhering to the plant’s O&M, Waste Management and Health and Safety Plan
Overseeing contractors as required.
Assisting in resolving issues or problems concerning the operation of the treatment facility.
Utilizing spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software at a proficient level.
Must possess a high School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Current OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training, OSHA 10 Hour Construction Outreach (card) training, and Fall Protection training documentation.
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects clients are security sensitive.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dryness, moisture, noise, chemicals, and vibration; position requires frequent repetitive bending/stooping, standing/walking, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and lifting less than 25 pounds; often power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operating vehicles, performing work on electrical circuits, and lifting 25-50 pounds; occasionally working with arms above shoulder level, climbing stairs, operating heavy, moving or dangerous equipment, performing repetitive or fine hand movements, working alone in isolated/remote areas, and lifting 50-75 pounds; rarely working at heights, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection equipment, working in confined spaces, keyboard/mouse operations, and lifting greater than 75 pounds. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to safety shoes/boots, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, face shield, and fall protection.
Client programmatically requires random drug testing program. The actual testing protocol is site-specific.
Enrollment in the AECOM/WorkCare medical surveillance program including baseline chromium (Cr6) testing, and other materials as needed is required for this position.
Experience working on field project sites, operating and maintaining a groundwater injection and extraction systems strongly preferred.
Trade certification, Associates Degree(s) and/or Bachelor’s Degree a plus.
Flexibility to work some weekend hours as needed/required.
Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude.
Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions.
Excellent communication skills.
Proficient computer skills; Microsoft Office applications.
First Aid/CPR training completion is preferred.
