Human Performance Research Scientist

KBR is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join our contract team supporting the 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.

The Senior Scientist will oversee KBR’s Research and Development (R&D) activities supporting the 711 HPW including human performance, aerospace physiology, vision science and other health related R&D.

Main roles and responsibilities include acting as the contractor technical lead with responsibility for designing and managing research operations supporting the AFRL’s Optimization of Human Capital (OHC) program and mentoring of other staff scientists. OHC is a multi-year research program to develop and transition a system for objectively aligning Airmen to occupational specialties to maximize training effectiveness, mission performance, and retention. The Senior Research Scientist provides the Government and other stakeholders with an overarching technical view of the status of OHC and other research activities and drives the development and implementation of technical approaches. The Senior Research Scientist performs technical management of individual research projects and integrates across projects to optimize overall program execution. The Senior Research Scientist also works collaboratively with program managers to develop program and project plans to achieve research objectives.

Required Education/Experience:

  • PhD in industrial and organizational psychology, physiology, vision science or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience in human subject research as a principle investigator
  • Extensive experience with protocol writing, data analysis, and technical report preparation and production.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing research programs

  • Ability to perform program management fundamentals (e.g.., work breakdown structures, schedules, resource allocation matrices, budgets, etc.)
  • Must be able to attain a Secret Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen

Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Training:

  • Experience performing research in the government environment
  • Project Management certification
  • Experience briefing senior managers and leaders, preferably to include in the defense sector
