Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly-motivated Geotechnical Engineer , Geological Engineer, or Engineering Geologist with 4+ years of experience for employment in the Salt Lake City, UT office. AECOM is searching for candidates with strong technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively both independently and collaboratively. This position will involve working with geotechnical engineers and other civil engineers on a variety of projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for highways, mines, buildings, dams, and other projects

Plan and conduct field exploration, collect samples, analyze data and review geotechnical samples for laboratory testing

Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and figures

Perform geotechnical analyses and design, prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications

Perform assignments requiring application of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

Exercise judgment to develop design parameters, develop design details, and select and adapt engineering design alternatives

Work under supervision of a project manager or senior level team member

Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 4 YORE or AA/AS (US) + 6 YORE or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 6 YORE or HS/GED + 8 YORE

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of geotechnical engineering and experience conducting field explorations

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Utah or able to become licensed within 6 months

  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills

  • Proficiency working with Excel and Word

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of civil & geotechnical engineers, and geologists

  • Experience logging soil borings, performing geotechnical analyses, and writing geotechnical reports

  • Understanding of construction methods for geotechnical projects

  • Understanding of various drilling and sampling methods and techniques

  • Ability to produce and adapt safety work plans and procedures for varying conditions

  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical engineering or related field

  • Working knowledge of the following programs: AutoCAD/Auto Civil, gINT, VisualBasic, SlopeW, SeepW, Slide, Settle3D, UTexas, WEAP

  • Experience with trenchless technologies, including Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) and Microtunneling

  • Experience writing geotechnical engineering proposals and managing geotechnical engineering projects, or managing engineering services during construction projects
