Structural Static Stress Analyst

Degree Required Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering is required.

KBR requires a structural static stress analyst to analyze aerospace ground support equipment. Those with familiarity with aerospace analysis practices and procedures will be preferred. Experience in space-flight hardware is not required but would be beneficial. Required experience includes:

  • Some (greater than 1 year of regular use) experience creating NASTRAN models in FEMAP from imported CAD geometry.
  • Comparable experience in PATRAN or ANSYS is acceptable.
  • Ability to perform hand calculations of stresses under gravity and thermal loading as either a cross-check of FEA results or as a stand-alone analysis.
  • Greater than 3 years FEA modeling experience Experienced in determining material allowable stresses and calculating Margins of Safety for aerospace structures Experience in presenting results in a formal setting strongly preferred.


  • The selected candidate will support the development of ground support equipment for space flight projects at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt MD. The applicant will interface with the project’s internal mechanical design team and flight hardware analysis teams, provide design guidance, receive CAD files, create and use NASTRAN models, and report Margins of Safety for ground support equipment. Documenting and presenting results orally is required as needed.

Preferred Software experience:

  • Professional experience (1+ years) of regular NASTRAN use. Professional experience (1+ years) of regular FEMAP and/or PATRAN use. MS Office

US citizens are preferred but resident aliens are acceptable.
