Job Summary

The Building + Places Planning Department of AECOM is actively recruiting for a Planner for immediate employment at our office in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The Planner work includes a broad range of multidisciplinary projects, including facility and community plans, military installation plans (ADP, IDP), special planning studies, permitting, and state and Federal environmental compliance processes (NEPA, HEPA).

The candidate must have a strong interest in developing and delivering high quality and innovative planning documents; experience working in Hawaii; excellent verbal, and written communication skills; and a strong interest in working in a fast-paced and collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical expertise and experience as a discipline expert, mentor and coach

  • May conduct peer reviews and make technical presentations

  • Works autonomously within established procedures and practices, with latitude to determine work priorities

  • Typically leads junior team members but continues to perform day to day work activities providing technical or operational guidance to employees, colleagues and customers

  • May have formal supervisory responsibilities defining team operating standards and ensuring essential procedures are followed

  • Assists with proposals to provide services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs

  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications

  • Analyzes complex issues and guides solutions to challenging issues within a team within their function, business unit or technical discipline, using standard operating procedures/methodologies as a basis and defining new procedures and methods as needed

  • Applies acquired expertise and knowledge to solve business challenges and provide coaching to peers and team members

  • Sought for technical experience, able to influence customers, suppliers and managers

  • Actively pursues continuous learning of technical advances, emerging business/industry trends and competitive positioning

  • Interacts regularly with clients to expand work assignments or market new work

  • May be preparing marketing materials and making calls to potential new clients

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or related field

  • 6+ years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field

  • 7-10 years of experience working on Hawaii policy planning, zoning, and regulatory documents

  • AICP credential preferred, or in process

  • Experience with Hawaii Planning and Business Development

  • Project Management experience preferred
