AECOM is seeking a Physicist to be based in our Aiken, SC.
Incumbent will work on complex assignments in one or more of the following fields: Emergency Management/Preparedness, Accident Analysis, Hazards Analysis, and Consequence Analysis.
Use physics background and data analysis skills to model phenomena and perform computations to support accident analysis, emergency planning hazard assessments, etc.
Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation.
Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze complex problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.
Comply with regulatory documentation and standards.
Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers.
Perform technical studies and calculations.

Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate sciences discipline from a four-year accredited college or university. Physics degrees are preferred.
0-1 year of job-related experience or equivalent years’ work experience, post-graduation, in a technical or research setting.
Candidate must be eligible to obtain a DOE Q clearance and access to Commercial Nuclear Facilities.
Candidate must be able to travel on business as needed.

Master or PhD Degree in Physics is preferred.
Prior internship with AECOM N&E Technical Services is preferred.
Experience with one or more of the following software programs: Microsoft Excel, Matlab, Mathcad, HotSpot Health Physics Code, EPIcode, ALOHA.
Experience/Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required:
Radiological Materials – Complex knowledge of radiological material characteristics, radiation safety, nuclear fuel characteristics, reactor operations, etc.
Hazards Analysis – Experience in preparing hazards analyses in nuclear/chemical/oil & gas environments.
Accident Analysis – Experience in using concepts from DOE-HDBK-3010-94 or NUREG/CR-6410 in the development of accident analysis related calculations in complex nuclear environments.
Emergency Management - Experience in emergency planning or preparedness in either the nuclear (NRC / DOE / FEMA-REP regulations) or chemical (EPA / OSHA regulations) industry and/or hazardous material planning.
Criticality Safety - Experience in preparing Criticality Safety Evaluations/Analysis reports or experience using criticality safety analysis computer codes (eg., SCALE or MCNP) with an understanding of criticality safety related DOE orders and standards, NRC regulatory guides, and ANSI/ANS-8 criticality safety national consensus standards.
Risk Analysis - capable of developing, documenting and defending probabilistic risk analyses in nuclear industry environments.
Innovation – Capable of generating novel approaches to complex problems.
