The System Validation, Test & Analysis Directorate (SVATD) organization integrates all aspects of system validation, test, and analysis from initial system architecture, design and development, through system validation. The SVTAD Directorate has overall responsibility for the system integration and test process, test facility management and capital planning, as well as off-site system and flight test conduct, analysis and test problem resolution.

Opportunities currently exist for a Section Manager within SVTAD’s Systems Integration, Test and Evaluation (SITE) department in Huntsville, Alabama. Members of the section are involved in various aspects of programs including Integration and test planning, integration of hardware and software, test conduct, data analysis, data archiving and test reporting. SVTAD SITE primary task areas include integration and test procedure development, reviews, conduct, and results analysis, integration and test program planning, facility and test resource management. The Section Manager is principally responsible for the leadership, administration, work assignments and career development of Section members. The Section Manager also supports organizational long-term strategic planning and related initiatives to enable successful day-to-day tactical execution.

Job Description:

The Section Manager will be a member of the SVTAD SITE leadership team, and as a Frontline Leader will be responsible for a section of approximately 25 members. It is expected that the remaining activity for the successful candidate will be on direct program assignments and special tasking.

Responsibilities include:


  • Oversee, supervise and lead a team of approximately 25 members
  • Conduct Performance Development process actions to include goal, interim and year-end performance reviews and discussions with employees
  • Communicate with open and honest feedback to section members, perform formal and informal reviews with each member, and establish meaningful and measurable goals with the team that are aligned to IDS Goals
  • Collaborate and interact with Program Managers, CPT and IPT Leads, other Section Managers, and the Department Manager to achieve business objectives
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding of new team members
  • Provide program status, execute corrective actions, and assist the Department Manager in all areas related to program/proposal staffing, cost proposal preparation and approval, personnel development and growth, direction of IDS initiatives, and controlling overhead expenses
  • Lead by example and reinforce to the team's Vision, Strategy, Goals & Values
  • Drive alignment, motivation and collaboration within multifaceted and self-directed team
  • Prepare presentations, written communications and facilitate meetings


Required Skills:


  • 8+ years of experience in an Engineering System Integration and/or System Test role
  • Experience in leadership role e.g. IPT Lead, CPT Lead, Project Manager, Test Director, etc.
  • Experience with integration and testing of complex radar program

Desired Skills:


  • Experience with proposal capture process (development of compliant Basis of Estimates, and White Sheet Development)
  • EVMS Certified and professional exposure to EVMS or similar budget tracking system
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and influential skills, team building skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and multitasking
  • Familiarity with the Estimate at Complete (EAC) process
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Labor Forecasting (ELF) system


Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Applied Physics or related discipline
