AECOM has a position available for a Communication and Community Engagement Specialist in our Winnipeg, Manitoba office.
In this role the employee works on the AECOM Communications and Community Engagement team and they engage stakeholders with an intent to seek input and gain a social license to move large, complex and high-profile projects forward. We design engagement and communication strategies and materials that inform, educate and motivate. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary, collaborative nation-wide team focused on the delivery of superior services. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Developing, executing and monitoring communication / community engagement plans to support client activities;
Developing and executing social media strategies and online engagement;
Developing project related communications including key messages, scripts, fact sheets, newsletters, presentations, and panel boards;
Supporting the design and implementation of public information sessions, open houses, advisory committee meetings and other live events;
Developing stakeholder profiles and engagement recommendations;
Maintaining and monitoring consultation tracking data, and managing related processes and documentation flow;
Organizing and leading meetings with stakeholders, including members of the public, representatives from government agencies, businesses, and indigenous communities;
Travel with Project team to remote and northern areas;
Supporting the growth of the stakeholder engagement service across AECOM, with a focus on providing advice and support to teams across Canada; and
Build relationships across AECOM’s wider business to identify and develop opportunities for co-operation, with a focus on the transportation, water, mining, and power sectors.
Bachelors in Communications, public relations, planning, natural resource management, or business
6+ years’ experience in community engagement / communications to support change, including large infrastructure development, planning projects or organizational management and shifts
Experience developing and leading public and Indigenous engagement programs;
Proven ability to track engagement / consultation activities and develop well researched and well written community engagement / consultation reports
Knowledge of and experience working with social media and website tools to promote effective public awareness and engagement
Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and express them in plain language;
Experience in the design and production of print materials and publications (e.g., public notices, newspaper ads) considered an asset;
Strong writing and presentation abilities;
Strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with computer applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications).
Must be comfortable working with company and client leaders;
Proven ability to effectively interact with the public and other varied stakeholders;
Collaborative and multi-disciplinary, team approach with the ability to trouble-shoot, solve problems, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a calm and professional manner.
Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation related to stakeholder engagement
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Master’s degree in communications, public relations, planning, natural resource management, or business;
8+ years of experience is preferred
Experience in managing projects, with respect to budget, schedule and resourcing to meet project commitments;
Familiarity with InDesign and design packages;
