AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Interior Designer I for employment in the Roanoke, VA office. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Under general supervision, responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline team lead

  • Under general supervision, develops complex interior design documents

  • Exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex design issues, and uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions

  • Prepares designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures

  • Advises the Interior Design Director/Leader about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems

  • Understands and assists with the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project

  • Assists in interpreting industry codes, permits, and standards, and ensures design and drawing compliance

  • Understands the role of each of the other disciplines

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required

  • Intermediate knowledge of the design process

  • Intermediate knowledge the purpose and use of vendor documents, reviews them for accuracy and resolves discrepancies

  • Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs thorough and accurate material take-offs for the discipline

  • Intermediate knowledge of discipline’s materials costs and cost analysis and forecasting methods

  • Intermediate knowledge of the discipline’s equipment and material lists

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. Basic knowledge of the design process, including FF&E, furniture systems and specifications, millwork design, finishes and materials

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCad, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and PowerPoint.
