Job Summary

Performs general support functions for the Environmental Monitoring and Hydrology group with regard to environmental sampling.

Essential Responsibilities:

Procedure Administration

Review and revise operating procedures

2.Qualified Records Coordinator

  • Train to become a Records Coordinator

  • Attend quarterly training sessions

  • Archive environmental monitoring data over one year old

  • Assist with archiving and transmittal of EM records

3.Environmental Data Verification and Validation

  • Follow applicable procedures

  • Complete Verification and Validation worksheets according to procedure

  • Review EM data sheets for completeness and correctness as needed

4.Prepare/review sections/chapters/appendices for the Annual Site Environmental Report and Semi-annual VOC Data Summary Reports.

  • Prepare/review text

  • Coordinate author updates and reviews

5.Procurement Contact

  • Generate purchase requisitions

  • Facilitate credit card purchases

  • Develop SOWs

  • Budget for upcoming projects and invoices

  • Being able to qualify as a Project Subcontract Technical Representative. This includes multiple WIPP Training classes and OSHA 30.

6.Audit Support

  • Assist in audit response

  • Develop and execute corrective actions

7.Field Sampling

  • Assist in collecting monthly groundwater data

  • Assist in the mobile lab collecting groundwater quality samples

8.Coordinate and work closely with other departments and organizations regarding the collection and analysis of environmental samples.

9.Coordinate, and oversee subcontractors in the field with groundwater well drilling, plugging and maintenance

Collect and describe cutting samples.

Interpret geophysical logs

Complete well designs based on geophysical logs

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands :

80/20 split between office and fieldwork. Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, constant sitting and use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work consisting of water level data collection, groundwater sampling, well drilling and maintenance, and subcontractor oversight. This field work will include lifting up to 50 pounds, spending ten hour days in the field, and being able to adjust to changing environmental conditions.

Minimum Requirements

Dual Citizenship will not be accepted for this position.

Graduation from four-year college Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Biology or Chemistry emphasizing earth sciences or equivalent formal technical training or military equivalent and 7 years of related experience in the environmental industry. The incumbent must have an in-depth working knowledge of the technical concepts, principles, and requirements associated with the work unit. Possess good written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills; and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. Possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. This position may require intermittent travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience at WIPP Site or other DOE facility preferred. Experience/Education working with environmental sampling and conditions also preferred. OSHA 30 Training is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Illustrator, Access Database is a plus.
