Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a seasoned and experience Marine Fisheries Scientist for our Tampa, FL location. The right candidate will join our expanding Southeast Analytical Oceans Team in our Environment Business Line. General responsibilities of this position include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge.

  • Makes recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline.

  • Makes recommendations on research requests, objectives, priorities, and timing.

  • Assess need for change and recommends development of standards.

  • Assess work against standards, objectives and specifications.

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies when working on unusually complex technical problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Develops solutions which are highly innovative. Assignments are often self-initiated. Acts as advisor to management and clients.

  • Oversees the work of less experienced scientists.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor' degree in Science

  • 8+ years of experience in offshore and nearshore marine fisheries sampling, analysis, understanding, modelling and statistics

  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial and recreational fisheries on the east coast

  • Specific technical, scientific and regulatory background in offshore migratory pelagic and groundfish life cycles

  • Ability to interface with the public, fishing community .

  • Superior communications and quantitative studies and writing skills.

  • Experience must include supporting fishery studies and offshore wind permitting (BOEM/Federal/State agencies) and related offshore programs.

  • Nearshore and coastal fisheries experience also highly desired.

  • Ability work in a team environment
