Job Description:
The Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, Systems Mission Area in Space and Airborne Systems, seeks a Systems Engineer intern to provide technical support and analysis to the sense and avoid radar team. The position will reside in the System Engineering Integration & Test Center (SEIT). This systems engineer intern will work amongst other Systems Engineers and will support the chief engineer, and lead systems engineer. Specific duties may include performance analysis, algorithm development, algorithm analysis, trade study generation, statistical modeling, performance predictions, and data analysis, for complex systems using Space and Airborne Systems Engineering processes and practices. Related day-to-day duties include: performance analysis, and resolving identified problems. This individual will interface with their team lead, team members, and other teams on a daily basis, conduct or participate in customer and/or program presentations, and provide task progress status updates and work products to the team lead.

For Multi-Level Intern Requisitions:
This position can be a Salary Grade of G04, G05 or NUG based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

  • G04 (College Junior by Fall 2020) - must have completed 60 hours of college
  • G05 (College Senior by Fall 2020) - must have completed 90 hours of college
  • NUG (Post- Graduate-Masters-PhD by Fall 2020) - must have an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled or about to enroll in a graduate degree program
Job Related Activities:
  • Using MATLAB to model radar algorithms
  • Using tools to model radar performance
  • Work with leadership and/or customers to elicit objectives and requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Participate in customer reviews and program technical reviews
  • Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practices and all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Space and Airborne Systems IPDS processes
  • Using Space and Airborne Systems 6 Sigma proactively to foster a culture of continuous process improvement
Required Skills:
  • Strong mathematical problem solving ability
  • Familiarity with MATLAB
  • Demonstrated capability of completing and following established procedures and schedules
  • Must be a college Junior, Senior or Graduate student by Fall 2020
  • Must be able to obtain a secret clearance
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position requires the ability to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance within one year of start date
Desired Skills:
  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)
  • Strong interpersonal communication, presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with MATLAB
Required Education: Currently pursuing a BS / BA from a four-year university and entering as a college Junior or Senior year OR pursuing a MS / MA / PhD by Fall 2020 with a major in Engineering, Physics, Math, Systems Engineering, Must be appropriate grade level listed above.
