Job Summary
Under remote supervision of the Pilot Plant Manager, the Maintenance Lead will be the single point of contact for all innovation utilizing R&D equipment in the Chicago Center for Food Design. Actual work will be supporting scientists and engineers in to develop product prototypes.
Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Establishing and maintaining a culture of safe work and zero injuries
Assisting with equipment setup, operation, and tear down, including sanitation
Troubleshooting equipment performance issues
Maintaining equipment per manufacturer’s recommended procedures
Maintaining a small inventory of tools, parts, and supplies to support routine maintenance
Calibrating and documenting equipment and tools on-site
Brainstorming and leading site improvement efforts
Establishing relationships with local trades for contract work
Bidding, awarding, and managing contractors for on-site project work
Managing chemical inventory, including cleaning chemicals, lubricants, coolants, and process fluids
Creating and maintaining preventative maintenance calendar
Assisting site staff with non-routine delivery or shipment of goods, which may include operating heavy equipment, crating equipment, or equipment installation
Tracking site spent versus annual budget and monthly reporting to the Pilot Plant Manager
Develop orientation and training for new hires and visitors on the various site capabilities
Help write and maintain procedures for use and cleaning of site equipment
Maintain operating and maintenance records for regulatory compliance
Receive and coordinate interoffice mail
Conduct environmental and sanitation effectiveness testing
Maintain stock inventory for lab and plant users, maintenance
Keep the facility MSDS library up to date and orderly
Execute tasks as dictated by the site’s safety file plan
Position Qualifications
Technical degree in related field highly desired.
Knowledge of basic electricity, 3-Phase Power, electrical safety, hands on trouble shooting, use of meters, knowledge of electrical components
Minimum 4 years’ experience in related field required.
Experience in food, pharmaceutical or personal care industries desired.
Experience in one or more of the following maintenance trades required: machine & equipment repair, metal equipment/part fabrication, welding, metal lathe, equipment trouble shooting/diagnostics, electrical (PLCs & controls), and/or CAD/CAM (solid works).
People, equipment, and project management experience desired.
USDA, FDA OSHA, & EPA knowledge desired.
Proficient in MS Office products.
Valid driver’s license required.
First Aid/CPR certified a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally; lift up to 25 lbs. regularly.
Work extensively in pilot plant and or production plant floor environment.
Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
Walking and/or standing for long periods of time.
Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders.
Bending and/or crawling; must be able to move safely and freely around machinery.
Driving a company or rental vehicle as needed.
