Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Remediation Engineer to work in either of our Roanoke, Arlington, VA or Germantown, MD locations. This is a position that will be primarily responsible for being a technical leader supporting AECOM’s vast portfolio of Department of Defense environmental investigation and remediation projects. Many of these projects have a primary focus on PFAS or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. PFAS are a set of emerging contaminants for which AECOM foresees a significant growth in its business. The successful candidate will have a successful work history of environmental investigation and remediation projects preferably for the DoD. Experience within the consulting industry demonstrating technical leadership in conducting feasibility studies and remedial design as well as developing successful remedial solutions for performance-based acquisition projects. Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff, subcontractors, and clients. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience preparing proposals for environmental remediation design

  • Knowledge/Experience – Demonstrated knowledge and successful experience in proposing, designing, and executing soil and groundwater remediation systems.

  • Technical Skills – Life cycle cost estimating, feasibility studies, environmental remedial design (e.g., soil vapor extraction, in situ bioremediation, pump and treat, etc.) proposal writing, and basic fate and transport modeling

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Requirements:

  • Years of Experience – 10-15

  • Experience managing federal projects (DOD)

  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Geology

  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist registration

  • Experience with specialized software (e.g., EVS, ModFlow, CADD, GIS, RACER) and building complex databases

  • Experience investigating sites with conventional and emerging contaminants (specifically per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS))

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

  • Experience managing a team of technical staff

  • Certificates – OSHA 40hr Hazwoper Training and current refresher certificates
