The Division Director of Veteran Services is responsible for the Leadership and Operations of Volunteer of America Northern Rockies's Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota Veteran Service programs. Responsibilities include ensuring program compliance with policies and procedures, staffing and performance management, business planning, risk management, and client services.

Essential Functions

Establish and maintain community relationships to promote program advocacy; represent the organization in
the communities, engage executive leadership and advancement staff as required

Ensure facilities and programs comply with certification, accreditation and contractual requirements

Assist the Development Team in fundraising efforts for Veterans programs

Provide leadership in areas of staff management, on-boarding, training, and performance management

Contribute program expertise to the organization's business planning and annual budget preparation

Evaluate program reports and staff performance about established goals and meeting benchmarks

Strategically manage programs for continuous improvement and efficiency of services

Facilitate onboarding curriculum and ongoing training specific to both the organization and each veteran program to attract and retain key talent

Quarterly visits to Veterans Services office locations throughout affiliate geography

Effective communicator, both oral and written

Solutions-based leadership

Relationship management

Crisis Management

Continuous demonstration of behaviors aligned with a posture of servant leadership and our cultural values

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises multiple veteran programs and program directors/managers. This position also serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

Work Environment

This job operates primarily in an office environment but may also perform in work in a less traditional office setting in varying work locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand, which may necessitate overnight stays.


This position is based in Sheridan, WY, with frequent travel to other locations across the three-state area as assigned and necessary to complete job responsibilities. Travel is routine for this position; regionally and nationally for staff supervision, organizational advancement, program support, and collaboration with Leadership and Colleagues.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social services or related field plus two years' management and supervisory experience

Valid driver's license

Adept with various computer program applications, particularly Microsoft Suite

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in social services or related field, plus five years of management and supervisory experience

Minimum of one year experience in military leadership
