Job Summary

Works as part of an architectural design team (urban design team), performing and completing work on defined segments of a project under the guidance and supervision of a Senior Architect (Urban Designer) or nominated supervisor while mentoring and coordinating junior staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Prepare, develop and edit, under the guidance of a Senior Architect (Urban Designer) or nominated supervisor, drawings, models, images and other documents relating to design;

  • Responsible for the production of drawings (presentation and working drawings), personally verifying the ‘correctness’ and ‘absolute accuracy’ of their work, quality, layout and notes before review by the Senior Architect (Urban Designer);

  • Report to the Senior Architect (Senior Urban Designer) on all production work and aim for excellence in design and documentation quality;


  • Develop, where required, representations of design options to be discussed with the wider design team;

  • Strive to achieve high quality and to meet deadlines efficiently and effectively;

  • Develop an understanding of design philosophy of projects, effectively conveying this to assigned team members when appropriate;

  • Seek creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develop appropriate research and documentation to support these solutions;


  • Conduct pro-active coordination with all design disciplines within AECOM and other team members to achieve a high quality, consistent set of presentation or working drawings;

  • Organize own work efforts and that of his/her assigned team where applicable;

  • Proactively check and coordinate project documents (including but not limited to drawing set organization, details, dimensions, interdisciplinary coordination items etc.);

  • Keep abreast of the latest software developments to increase productivity while sharing knowledge with colleagues.

Minimum Requirements

Qualities and Skills required:

  • Able to demonstrate ability to undertake the above responsibilities;

  • Evidence of good design understanding;

  • Evidence of ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  • Evidence of general understanding of space planning and functional adjacencies;

  • Understanding of basic building materials, details, and construction techniques, along with general project design philosophy relating to assigned work.

  • Ability to use a variety of media in the development and documentation of a design intent;

  • A flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and excellent organizational skills;

  • Self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks and in response to direction and instruction;

  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work in a multicultural, competitive environment as part of an effective team, assisting and supporting team members;

  • Able to mentor junior staff;

  • Capable of dealing with conflicting demands and able to prioritize duties and work;

  • Evidence of the ability to understand design decisions taken by others;

  • Able to use the following software: Rhinoceros 3d, 3dmax+ vray, Maya, Grasshopper 3d, t-splins, Google sketch up, revit, Dynamo, Photo shop, Illustrator, InDesign, Key-shot, Lumion, Prezi, Power point

  • Fluent in English, written and spoken; understanding/fluency in Arabic and advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of five or six-year architectural degree program;

  • B. Arch or B.Sc in Architecture (Urban Design or Landscape Architecture);

  • Min. 2 to 4 years post graduate experience.
